I really like it, even though it sounds like knicker-less. Unfortunately DH hates it (along with Dominic, another favourite), so it can't be used by us.

jellybeans · 19/02/2010 20:57

I like it but heard people say 'knicker less'.

pipoca · 19/02/2010 20:43

Love it! My 2 yr old DS is a Nicolás here in Spain cos it works in English and Spanish. Not that we ever call him Nicolás tho, always Nico.

Heated · 19/02/2010 20:00

Like Nicholas and Nick, both good strong names.

DrNortherner · 19/02/2010 19:58

Great name. It's my ds's middle name, excepth we use the french spelling - Nicolas.

pigsinmud · 19/02/2010 19:54

Not good for me as it reminds me of a boy in my primary school class who always had to sit at the teacher's desk because he was naughty. He'd sit there, pick his nose and chew the scrapings .....

PeachyPeachyEverPreachy · 19/02/2010 19:53

Didn't use toike it but ds2 has a friend by that name and now I think of him, which is a good, solid likeable thing.

So a + from me.

thisisyesterday · 19/02/2010 19:51

i love it, tis ds3's middle name

and you could shorten to Nico if you have to shorten

ilovesprouts · 19/02/2010 18:36

my ds1 is a nicholas hes 20 but gets called nick now ,frilly and wet no its not !! good strong name

pointysayhiphip · 19/02/2010 18:22

cripes, sorry to all those with Tim/Nick combos.

Of course, names have no bearing on the beautifulness of the people.

beccagrace2 · 19/02/2010 14:36

my brother is nicholas, known as nick, and was always known as naughty nick! every nick i have known has been naughty or nasty come to think of it...then there is nick cotton! very personal opinion tho.

Lancelottie · 19/02/2010 12:33

DD's primary school has two, so maybe not that uncommon still?

Mind you it also has a Martin, Andrew, Simon, Stephen, Jason, Amanda, Paul, Angela, Claire and Helen. I think I've moved to a 1970s timewarp.

crumpette · 19/02/2010 12:10

I love the name Nicholas or Nicolas. Lovely strong sensible international name. Don't like nn Nicky. Wanted to use Nicolas for DS but was vetoed by DH n the grounds that it sounds like 'knickerless'

it was my first choice though, it's very nice

mumoftoomany · 19/02/2010 11:20

Don't mind Nicholas, but really don't like Nicky at all (I know too many female Nickys).

ChynaDoll2006 · 19/02/2010 10:43

Love Nicky, don't like Nick or Nicholas.

lololol · 19/02/2010 10:21

I really like it, shortened or not.

FreddoBaggyMac · 19/02/2010 10:17

Absolutely love it, but don't allow it to be shortened!

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 19/02/2010 10:16

My brother and DP are both Nick (Nicholas and Nicolas respectively).
Both very strong traditional names.
Tin Bum is the only bad nickname you can get from it.

activate · 19/02/2010 10:09

Nickel-arse

always have always will

Nick is a good strong name though

CinderellaRach · 19/02/2010 10:09

My dh is Nicholas.Only his mother calls him that though! He also has a sibling called Timothy(can't say I like this name though)aswell as an Alexander and Jessica.
Everyone calls him Nick who knows him.I much prefer Nick to Nicholas. My nn for him is Nico.I absolutely love Nick/Nicky/Nico so I'd say go for it!!

LittleDonkin · 19/02/2010 10:01

I actually like Nico as a nn!!!

I like Nicholas and Nick but you need to be prepared for child to be called Nick or Nicky, if that would annoy you and you would feel the need to insist on Nicholas then dont do it.

serenity · 19/02/2010 00:59

DS1 is Nicholas (or Nick, usually) I obviously don't think it's wet Good, solid, classic Anglicised Greek name which is why we used it.(Plus DH is a big fan of Nick Cave - also not wet)
