The spam method of baby naming

DitaVonCheese · 16/02/2010 20:09

I don't know whether the spammers out there know of my penchant for daft names (once snogged a Hrothgar just because he was Hrothgar, married a Jethro) or if they all come from absurd monikers, but it struck me that my spam folder is a rich source of baby name inspiration.

In the past couple of hours, I have had:

Mona
Thelma
Marissa
Floyd
Kristen
Edwin
Deidre
Darrel
Thaddeus
Edmund
Minnie
Hunt er
Toni
Florine
Lance (Lance Champagne, no less!)
Andrea
Herman

Whaddya think?

eh???

5inthebed · 16/02/2010 20:18

Are you taking the first names off the peope who spam you? Sounds like a great way to chose a name!

DitaVonCheese · 16/02/2010 20:19

Yep If I ever manage to get pg again, I think DH and I should just pick a date and then just agree to have the first spammer on that date. Would save a lot of time and arguing discussion

I'm liking your style, just hoping it isn't Herman or Deidre

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2010 20:27

You get that much spam? Don't you have a filter??

DitaVonCheese · 16/02/2010 22:53

That's from my spam folder, but that isn't much spam - DH gets hundreds of spam emails each day!

I reckon Herman and Deidre are due a revival

not as good as the Eddie Stobart method, but points for effort

DitaVonCheese · 16/02/2010 23:31

The Eddie Stobart method will be the death of me!

What's the Eddie Stobart method?

MaggieMaeve · 17/02/2010 00:10

I don't think that most of those names are either daft or absurd. I've never heard of Florine and Thaddeus is perhaps not very mainstream, but I know/have known people called most of the rest of them. Have to agree that I do quite enjoy the interesting name combinations that come into my spam box too

DitaVonCheese · 17/02/2010 09:14

This morning I have:

Greg
Cornelius
Vera
Ollie
Faustino
Ronnie

Eddie Stobart method involves the names painted on the front and side of the cab and just hope you don't get Optimus Prime

I thought it was Deirdre, but that was how my spammer spelled it.

nooka I've clearly led a sheltered life, because I've only met a Deirdre, a Darrel, an Andrea and a Greg. I think it's the fact that most of their messages are called things like "My new address!" or "Hello again!" and I'm unlikely to think "Gosh, that must be my old friend Faustino Lockwood". Though I guess the one who addressed me as "Hey, crazy penetrator!" could have called themselves what they liked, still wasn't clicking that one

I like that list Dita. Especially Faustino. Faustino and Cornelius, come in for your teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Yeah, totally, I could open the door and yell that in a heartbeat. ONe of the best lists I've seen on rc. Change Ronnie to Donnie and it is even better.

Bucharest · 17/02/2010 10:13

You see I get people called HavingProblemsGettingItUp?

I suppose if I hyphenated, it would seem more legit?

DitaVonCheese · 19/02/2010 19:57

Do you think HavingProblemsGettingItUp would suit a boy or a girl? ... Mine all have proper names but one did start the other day with the sentence "Why pay to fuck somebody when you can save money and fuck yourself?", which I thought was an interesting opening gambit.

Thank you Maggie, it is a nice list, isn't it? Faustino is particularly good, I agree. I think most baby names these days don't have enough of a "sold my soul to Satan" ring to them.

I was a bit worried that the spammers were MNers, as the first few messages I got today were from Nicholas, Sue and Amanda, but have had some good ones since:

Emanuel
Milford
Saundra
Emerson
Melvin
Derick
Corina
Minerva
Clifton
Freeman
Car mine
Ellison
Rowena
Perry
Candace
Edwardo
Hilario

I particularly like Hilario. "Hilario, stop doing that!". It definitely works.
