We have two grogeous children dd aged 6 and ds aged 10 months and are hoping to concieve dc no. 3 this year . Both of our children are G's.

Over sunday lunch in our local village pub we have been throwing out names

The firm favourite for a girl at the moment (that we both agree on) is Felicity, not a name we've mentioned beforehand.

We like William for a boy (after OH's Grandad)popular maybe - (not something we are keen about, prefer something not - but collectively we adore it)

Opinions please

It's a gorgeous name and one my sis had lined up only she had a DS. Have a friend with same name and she is Feli for short which I always thought was pretty!

Not keen on Gabriel - seems too flowery/floaty for a boy plus nn would be Gay which is awful imo. William on the other hand is a great strong name which can't be disliked.

dexifehatz · 11/10/2010 19:36

My 20 month old is a Felicity Faith and boy does it suit her! We call her Fliss or Fe and my father calls her Filly.Great now Felicity Kendal is back in the limelight!

Dibbydab · 10/10/2010 22:28

I have a 10 week old Felicity so I'm biased Smile - only received positive reactions when she's been introduced to people, though lots of people asking how to spell it Hmm err, the usual way, how else would you spell it? Felicitay? Falissity?

Linnet · 10/10/2010 22:11

I love the name Felicity. If I had another dd that is what I would call her.

zozzle · 10/10/2010 22:08

Too girly and frilly for my tastes but ok and Flic/Flick is a nice nn - or is it Fliss?

persephoneplum · 10/10/2010 13:14

Felicity is lovely, but then I have a Felix so I'm definitely biased towards it. It's so fresh and light without being childish. I love it :)

William is lovely if it's honouring someone - if it's set in stone then it is and it's quite handsome at that.

remaincalm · 07/10/2010 14:43

Earlier in the thread I said that I would call my baby Felicity if my baby was a girl. I now have a Felicity Olivia and I am so happy with the name choice. We call her Lissie for short.

yellowflowers · 06/10/2010 11:52

I try not to say horrible things about names on here but as you are playing with the name and not chosen it yet and you have asked - I don't like it. It makes me think of someone who is prim and proper - like Verity.

SE13Mummy · 05/10/2010 23:44

DD1 was very nearly named Felicity (with Mary as her middle name) but DH felt she looked more like a Harriet Hmmso we went with that instead. I still love the name (and meaning) Felicity.

Flossiebelle · 05/10/2010 00:26

It took me over three weeks to name my 4 week old who is called Martha Felicity-Rose. We must be thinking on the same wave length Wink

FAB14 · 04/10/2010 20:25

I am called Felicity and my nickname which I am more known by is Fliss. I hate Flick.... I dont understand where it comes from relating to the name. Never heard of Lissy but think it's nice. The older I get the more Felicity grows on me and I am proud of my name and I am probably the only Felicity my friends have ever met :)

remaincalm · 14/04/2010 20:44

I'm due in 8 weeks and if baby is a girl she will be called Felicity. I just adore the name so much.

goingitalone · 14/04/2010 18:06

lovely name seriously considered it for dd4 ds4 is gabriel but wasnt convinced it went with our surname

duchesse · 15/02/2010 12:33

My eldest daughter (now 14) is Felicity and although we get many complaints from her about her middle name, she has never said she did not like her first name. I have never met anyone who did not say they thought it was a lovely name either, not even a look. Universal vote of approval has been our experience. Plus there's the added bonus of the Felicity Wishes series of books for when she's 5 or 6 and just getting into reading (motivation!).

diddl · 15/02/2010 12:19

I love Felicity and William.

Gabriel is fantastic.

My fave boys names are Hamish & Rufus.

Wolfblass · 15/02/2010 11:29

Thankyou for all of your opinions.

William may be a bit ..meh, but we both adore it and as i say it is after OH's grandfather. There is no other name for a boy we could ever agree on, it was a nightmare when expecting our ds. And we know of no others at all, in either family, within our village or nearest town, so sin't too popular around here (Alfie's, Jacks and Freddies in ds's tots group)

Our son is Gabriel (middle name Henry, OH'S grandads middle name, and Gabriel, OH's first choice which i grew to adore and he couldn't be anything else)

I think Felicity is looking like a serious contender now. Doesn't seem popular, i cannot find it in the top 100? (again in tots group, girls are Olivia, Ruby and Isobel)

My other choices were Martha or Susannah, which have a resounding no from him, as do his choices from me.

I love the name Felicity, and it was a very strong contender for our DDs. We didn't however, like any of the usual abbreviations for it (Fliss, Flick, Fizz...) and so therefore ruled it out. That said, I hadn't thought of Lissie, and that is quite cute!

DD2 was going to be a William if she was a boy. Fab name

izzybiz · 14/02/2010 19:32

Dh's neice is known as Fliss or Fe.

frakkinaround · 14/02/2010 18:36

I like it, I only know one and she shortens to Flixie, which suits her.

MaggieMaeve · 14/02/2010 18:27

i like the style of it, but not the actually name.. felicity is a mouthful with no pretty nn imo.

Wigeon · 14/02/2010 18:18

My mum is a Felicity and I have to say she always hated it because she thought it sounded posh and pretentious (her younger sister is called Jane!). I know she is still embarrassed about introducing herself as "Felicity" in certain circles even though she is in her 60s! That may say more about my mother than about the name itself. So she has been know to call herself "Fizz" or similar (cue groans from my sister and me). She also gets embarrassed when people can't pronounce it or say it wrong (like "Facility").

When she was a little girl she called herself "Lissie" and now all her family call her Lissie, which I think is quite a pretty abbreviation.

Personally I don't mind it.

Species8472 · 14/02/2010 18:07

Felicity is a beautiful name

Igglybuff · 14/02/2010 18:01

Felicity is lovely. As is felicia which is my name said with the same pronounciation not fer-leee-sha as some think

Also William is nice - it's my DS's name. It's popular but not too popular and everyone has commented on how much they love it (it's one of those names you know, but there aren't many williams around).

LetThereBeRock · 14/02/2010 17:54

Love it.

Skegness · 14/02/2010 17:54

Yes, I like it.
