What do you think of Euphemia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Sounds like a disease.

jabberwocky · 11/02/2010 01:11

I'm sorry but the first thing I thought of was euthanasia.

I know an "Effie" tbh, I don't think most people even know what Effie is short for, I didn't and had to ask her mum .
As far as I know, this particular kid is always called Effie, never Euphemia. Effie is very cute, I like it!

GrimmaTheNome · 10/02/2010 22:23

Sounds like a euphemism to me...

I love it! Elegant, feminine and classic!

muttonchop · 10/02/2010 21:25

Not keen. Really not keen at all!

I had a great-aunt with the name. She was known as 'Phemie'. Lovely aunt, but still unconvinced by name.

MaryBS · 10/02/2010 21:17

I have to admit, I thought Mrs Doubtfire too.

JoeyBettany · 10/02/2010 21:17

Isn't that the name of a doll the little girl had in 'What Katy Did Next'?

nice 19th c feel to it.

Blanchet · 10/02/2010 21:12

What with the Gertrude thread too... well, all I say is

BessieBoots · 10/02/2010 20:25

Sounds like mothballs smell, if y'know what I mean.

sunshineonarainyday · 10/02/2010 20:24

Love it. My Granny was Euphemia (known as Effie).

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 10/02/2010 20:23

i think it sounds like a lung disorder, but i can see the appeal of effie.

usualsuspect · 10/02/2010 20:23

GoldenSnitch · 10/02/2010 20:19

Isn't it the name of the nanny in that film with Robin Williams in a fat suit?
