Dh's shortlist

Well, we had agreed on Caspar Gene, or so I thought. DH now says Caspar is weak sounding. It is to go with Barnaby George, and this is DH's list, in three sets, favourites first, then likes, then "could live withs" Personally makes me want to cry! Help me see some lights

Samuel ~(bad associations for me)
Jesse - a Jesse picks on DS so has put me off!

Loui - yes, this spelling
Freddie - Barney and Fred?
Sonny
Beau
Hector (I like this but friends already used)
Gene

Levi
Austin
Oskar - I could live with Oscar
Albie
Flynn
Archer
Charles
Benjamin (like this but silly with Barnaby?)

Samuel - bad associations for me too!
Jesse - not keen, will be assumed he is a girl

Loui - not keen
Freddie - I like, but see your "barney and fred" issue.
Sonny - no
Beau - no
Hector - no, really struggle to understand the popularity of this one
Gene - god no

Levi - No, unless you are very jewish, in which case quite cute perhaps
Austin - LIKE
Oskar - LIKE, both Oscar and Oskar
Albie - LIKE - though not so keen on Albert
Flynn - prefer Fynn? or Finn?
Archer - No, reminds me of Archers & lemonade. Archie yes. But not Archibald. (helpful aren't I )
Charles - Fine
Benjamin (like this but silly with Barnaby?)

  • Like. Not silly at all with Barnaby.
cece · 09/02/2010 15:51

Samuel - good but not if you have bad feelings towards it.
Jesse - a bit girly sounding?

Loui - hate the spelling
Freddie - yes too flintstone but nice name
Sonny - like but makes me think of naughty boys
Beau - awful
Hector awfu;l
Gene - nope

Levi - no
Austin - sort of like
Oskar - not with that spelling
Albie - cute for kid not so keen for man
Flynn - umm no
Archer - awful
Charles - nice
Benjamin - think this is the best tbh

mathanxiety · 09/02/2010 15:46

Samuel ~ no if you don't like it
Jesse - no again
Loui - 'yes, this spelling' NO with that spelling, but YES spelled properly. Why the weird spelling?
Freddie - Nice
Sonny - NOOOO
Beau -- Beau Gene sounds like the BoDeans, great band, imo, but namewise, no. Beau is nice without Gene as mn, though.
Hector - nice but if friends nabbed it first, then no.
Gene -- Nice as first name, prefer Eugene or Eoghan (Irish), pronounced like Owen.
Levi - LOVE
Austin - LOVE
Oskar - I could live with Oscar - LOVE
Albie - No
Flynn - NO, prefer Finn
Archer - No
Charles - LOVE
Benjamin - LOVE, not a bit silly with Barnaby

So, Louis, Freddie, Beau, Gene, Levi, Austin, Oskar/ Oscar, Charles and Benjamin.

I think my favourites are Austin and Levi. Barnaby and Austin; Barnaby and Levi...

3isthemagicnumber · 09/02/2010 14:39

Oscar Benjamin-fabulous combination especially for a curly blond haired 2 year old

(have a Louis as well)

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/02/2010 14:12

Oh Jesse is wonderful - it normally seems to be the dhs vetoing that one!

I would go for Jesse Patrick.

pippylongstockings · 09/02/2010 13:58

Dexter
Orson
Felix

mummyjackson · 09/02/2010 13:42

I agree with the PP. I love Oscar & Louis! I wish my DP would agree to them but he says they're too poncey. Then he goes and suggests Otto. Go figure!

nannynobnobs · 09/02/2010 13:32

I love the name Louis. If he's going to spend his life telling people they've spelled his name wrong why not spell it right in the first place!
I much prefer Oscar to Caspar. Puts me in mind of Casper the friendly ghost or Kaspar Hauser.

Rindercella · 09/02/2010 13:26

I actually like/love most of the names:

Samuel ~ love it
Jesse - hmm, not one of my favourites on your list
Loui - daft spelling? If he likes the sound, why not spell it correctly?
Freddie - see what you mean
Sonny - not that keen
Beau - I like
Hector - not so keen
Gene - quite like

Levi - like it
Austin - like it
Oskar - Oscar's good
Albie - hmm
Flynn - ok
Archer - no
Charles - tad dull compared to some of the others
Benjamin - Barnaby & Ben(jamin), doesn't really work

audley · 09/02/2010 12:23

Thanks again for your feedback. I have said absolutely no to Fred of any sort because of the Flintstones, and no to Charles, Samuel and Loui(s) because DH is blatantly lacking in naming confidence so just copying them from his friends children!

I couldn't go for Beau, Levi, Austin, Albie or Archer because they are so far away from my tastes. Flynn rhymes with our last name, so no to that too.

DH looked utterly aghast at my favourites Theodore and Sebastian.

So we have agreed on waiting to see what the little chap suits and probably choosing between Caspar Gene (a compromise for us both) and Oscar Benjamin. I did hear Barnaby and Ben the elves on Ben and Holly's little kingdom this morning , and rather liked it, so that's the wild card.

Thanks for all your opinions

Thanks for all the feedback, Barnaby has too many names, usually Dolly Rocket from me and DH, plain old Barney from other relatives, Barnaby as a whole by friends. Calls himself Ba Ba or Big Boy
Just read list to DH who said no to the lot! Grrr.
