That our son will be called Bailey!

He will. Not. Stop. Going. On about it.

He's agreed to read the responses to this thread so please fire away (hopefully not too many of you will like it!).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NorkyButNice · 07/02/2010 09:52

If your surname is Jackson then he'd have initials BJ which I wouldn't choose to give any child.

Alternatively, if Jackson is the name of an existing DC then I think Bailey is a similar style of name.

I don't hate it personally.

yama · 07/02/2010 09:52

I don't think the op's DP is trying to force the name Bailey - more that the op wants him to stop going on about it.

asdx2 · 07/02/2010 09:49

Definitely all the Bailey's around here are either girls or dogs. A bit chavvy too........don't do it.

Ziggurat · 07/02/2010 09:48

WAY too gimmick-y and try-hard.

And anyway, this...

"There are thousands of nicer names. Thousands."

brimfull · 07/02/2010 09:43

Girls name and not a nice one

Wanderingsheep · 07/02/2010 09:41

Yep, it's a dogs name!

I was having my nails done once and the girl doing them was saying to someone else: "Bailey just appears between us in the middle of the night!"

Me thinking that Bailey was a dog asked, "is Bailey a pet?" she replied that he was her three year old son. I was so [embarrassed]

DiamondHead · 07/02/2010 09:40

Girl's name.

MadameCastafiore · 07/02/2010 09:39

That is a chavtastic dogs name if ever I heard one.

You MUST NOT call your child BAILEY!!!!

When you are in labour you must scream at him and claw his arms saying over your dead body will this child be called Bailey - trust me he will be so bloody scared that he won;t dare mention the name ever again. (You must have a scarey glint in your eye though and look really manic - well you will anyway but try and play on it a bit too!)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/02/2010 09:31

You both have to choose a name, otherwise DS would have been called Arthur.

Bailey is a dog/girls name.

sweetkitty · 07/02/2010 09:29

I also know two dogs called Bailey but in saying that we had a dog called Chloe and this was way before it was the name for a girl for a while.

DP and I cannot decide on a name for DS and I think we are both going to have to compromise on a name that doesn't float our boat but is safe IYSWIM.

activate · 07/02/2010 09:28

That said Bailey is a lovely name and I know two of them

But that's not the point

If both mother and father don't love the name and want the name then you have to shut up

activate · 07/02/2010 09:27

You can't choose a name unilaterally

if you could I'd have a James

but I'm an adult in a relationship and wouldn't dream of trying to insist on my desires if my partner has already vetoed

he needs to grow the fuck up

piscesmoon · 07/02/2010 09:26

A dreadful name! He will have to compromise.

Pingpong · 07/02/2010 09:21

I think Bailey is a silly name for a boy, much more suited to a dog!
I also met a woman at toddler group this week who hated her sons name. She and her partner had agreed that he could chose the boys name and she would chose the girls name. They had a boy, he chose the name and she is stuck with it.
You have to both like the name, not love it but at least both like it IMO.

wastingaway · 07/02/2010 00:09

Lol at chavvy dog.

Strix · 07/02/2010 00:08

Aside from the fact that the name is girly and an alcoholic drink... oh and just plain silly... you can not give your child a name that one of you hates, which you clearly do. One of you cannot just up and declare he/she will be called x. Blood rediculous. Is your DP going to take a similar stance when you disagree on appropriate discilpne? I think it's best he learn to compromise sooner rather than later.

Find a name you both like, even if it means giving up the ones one of you loves.

thisisyesterday · 07/02/2010 00:03

the name has nothing to do with it.

the fact is, you can't name your child something that you don't both agree on.

so, sorry Mr MummyJackson, you need to re-think

Amapoleon · 07/02/2010 00:03

The name not the dog, hahaha

Amapoleon · 07/02/2010 00:01

My sister's dog is called bailey and it is a bit chavvy.

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 06/02/2010 23:48

Chav, or stupid mum trying to be cool spelling it baylee! [hmmm]

LaRagazzaInglese · 06/02/2010 23:46

It's a chavs name or a dogs name. Or a chav's dog's name!

I have the opposite problem. DH has put forward no ideas of his own, but has poo pooed every one of my suggestions so far. Grrrr.

mummyjackson · 06/02/2010 23:32

Over my dead body will I name my son Bailey, but my partner is going on and on and on and on and on (and so on)..

He thinks it's a "really cool name". I just want him to realise that it is an alcoholic drink and not a name! Well it's a surname but it does not work as a forename in my opinion!

He's gone to bed now but I will be showing him the responses in the morning. I'm just really thrilled that you think of it the way I do!
