I know a very cool young man called Eden.
It's a great name, go for it!

notsochickchickchicken · 31/03/2010 09:53

I know two boys called Eden, it's not my cup of tea but it's better than Etienne.

GladioliBuckets · 31/03/2010 09:43

Eden is too girly, Etienne is great, Elias even better (pronounced either way though I prefer the Greek Eeeeeeliass)

scottishmummy · 30/03/2010 22:40

eden is girls name

runnybottom · 30/03/2010 22:36

Eden is a boys name! I like it. But I like Elias more.

Lora69 · 30/03/2010 22:26

oh my god, neither!

Love Eden tho- for a GIRL. Its on my list x

stripeytiger · 30/03/2010 21:39

Etienne is lovely, different without being too quirky.

JeMeSouviens · 30/03/2010 21:26

Etienne is lovely.

What is with all the, can't use that name unless you're from the country of origin. Pick a name you like and use it, it doesn't matter if it's origin is French, Swedish, Afrikaans or Sth American.

lssb · 30/03/2010 21:19

I have a 3 year old boy called Eden - is it the same naughty boy? Out of my 3 boys its my favourite name and gets the most 'love the name' from strangers.

nooka · 13/02/2010 20:24

They both seem like girls names to me, although I think Etienne is a French boys name, it just sounds feminine to an English ear. I think that you would have to be French to carry it off.

Lots of other good "E" names on this thread. dd was going to be Ezra (if she had been the boy we were expecting), so obviously I think that's the best .

diddl · 13/02/2010 20:22

Etienne is a great name.

Eden-for a girl imo.

DeirdreB · 13/02/2010 20:06

Obviously you asked for opinions so you got some I guess - imo there are not enough unusual boys names out there - go for it!! How many little girls called Amelie / Chloe / Isabelle are French??

scottishmummy · 07/02/2010 13:13

the eden i know is a wee girl

heQet · 07/02/2010 13:13

eden isn't a girl's name. And it's not girly either.

janeite · 07/02/2010 13:12

Oh of course - Edward/Edmund are far and away the best E names: how on earth did I forget them? I liked St Etienne though!

cece · 07/02/2010 13:08

Eden too girly

Ettiene only really works if you are French imo.

How about;

Eric
Edgar
Edward
Eduord
Edmund
Earl
Ellery
Emlyn
Ernie
Errol
Eugene
Ezra

No t that I like all of the above names, just some I found on a website of boys names!

PuppyMonkey · 07/02/2010 13:04

Ethan is better for a boy than Eden. Eden makes me think of a pre-Raphaellite woman floating around with long wavy red hair and a white dress. Not good image for a boy.

Etienne makes me think of that crap 90s band with the wimpy woman singer.

Today seems to be a good day for poncey names in MN land.

Flightattendant · 07/02/2010 13:02

I like the name Eden for either gender.

I know of a small, English female Etienne and a large, French male Etienne. It is a bit French for a bloke really.

It's a lovely name though.

janeite · 07/02/2010 12:58

No to both.

Why on earth does it have to begin with E? V strange!

Ellis is good / Elias is lovely / Emil is ok / Ernest is okay but Ernie is hideous / Elijah is okay but I don't like Eli / Elliot is getting popular but it does nothing for me.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/02/2010 12:54

I know a male Eden. I quite like it but it is a bit airy fairy.

Etienne is toooo french (unless you are actually french)

Tortington · 07/02/2010 00:57

pregnant women should not be allowed to choose names.

in fact there should be a law against naming a child until 2 weeks after the birth.

etienne? dude, seriously!

MilkNoSugarPlease · 07/02/2010 00:54

LOVE the name Eden for boy or girl

and really like Etienne

Knew an Etienne from when he was born (name SO SO didnt suit him!) until he was 3 (had completly 100% grown into the name! SO suited him!)

totally unhelpful i know!

EmilyStrange · 05/02/2010 21:43

"naff to be original", let's all be sheep then

I know quite a few male Edens, I think of it as more male than female but I hear it pronounced with a soft E rather than a hard E (as in garden of....).

tostaky · 05/02/2010 21:37

I like Etienne and i dont understand why it is pretentious... but maybe thats because im french?
Enzo is nice too
Not too keen on Eden though

Ziggurat · 05/02/2010 20:06

"It works. Strong name."

Eden is many things, possibly even nice. But it is not strong.
