Help ! changed my mind about name 'Celeste' so need another girl name...

Hope this is not too complicated...

We have a 2 year old little Girl Twin called Xanthe first name, Celeste middle name.

Problem is I now really dislike her middle name- Celeste and want to change it !!

( big apologies to families with Celeste's but I now think it does not go and we were always unsure about it )
I know her first name is unusual but I love that, it really suits her. I want to change her middle name before she 'knows' what it is. I'd like her to not know I've changed it till she's a lot older as dont want to confuse her: or let her realise I basically dont know what I'm doing !

As her first name is unusual, I'd like a much more familiar middle name for balance.

Our Surname is long and starts with T.
Also she has an older sister called Eva Fenella, and her twin brother is Ralph Ford.

Can't start with E, or R. Or ideally A or I ( Me and DH names )

Any ideas ????? Am stuck. Bit like 'Lana'
or 'May' but not enough. Like 'Fleur' or quite keen on other names starting with 'F'. Because, have realised other two kids middle names both start with 'F'.

(Is there any prize for longest most complicated post on babynames !)

Xanthe Celeste is your daughter's name. I think it's great. I honestly don't think you should change it now. Let your daughter decide when she's older.

5DollarShake · 13/07/2010 09:12

Xanthe Celeste runs together more prettily than just about any of the other suggestions on here, to my ears - certainly much more musical than Xanthe May/Fay, et al.

I honestly think you're mad to change it - in the nicest possible way!

Don't forget that this is purely about you and your feelings - whereas at the end of the day, it's her name. She may love it, or she may be ambivalent about it, but it's such a defining characteristic, that to change it now even though she's too young to really appreciate it, is just mad, IMO!

What I'm saying is, again in the nicest possible way, is that it's not all about you.

Add an additional middle name into the mix if you must, but I honestly think you're better off just leaving it as the lovely Xanthe Celeste.

Xanthe Celeste is great!
The names go really well.

Anyway, it´s her name now.

Let her change it when she´s older if she wants.

If you are thinking about official forms, I'm not sure you can add extras in that aren't on your BC or changed by deed poll can you? I know that my sister doesn't use her second middle name (my parents had a total strange fit when choosing it, so I can totally see why) but on anything official it gets used - like when she got married.

However if you want to add another extra one in, then I'd recommend something short and easy to spell (I have three and am very glad my last one is short, as is my surname).

For a middle name why should it matter what letter is starts with? Initials are only a problem with the first name.

Any way, here are some single syllable names traditional names that might work

Clare
Ruth
Ann
Jane
Joan
Lynn
Maeve
Joy
Rose
Fay

I think it's fine as it is - adding another name is fine also

Xanthe Fay sounds to me like Santa Fe. Not sure you want to name her after a city

NotAnOtter · 01/02/2010 23:02

sorry but easily nicest is Xanthe Celeste

picklemum · 01/02/2010 22:46

Actually MrsvWoolf, been thinkining about your idea of leaving Celeste and adding another middle name..... that is fab idea.

Think I will do that. If it becomes too ong and a pain for her when filling out forms then she can just drop the middle name she doesnt like. thanks for golden advice !

Still got to decide on new middle name to add...

hmmmm Xanthe Fay, i like it i think, what does anyone else think ??

You know there will be lots of things in your DDs life that you will not like, and you other DCs too!

I think you could see this as an opportunity to see your DD as a very separate person to you and to remind you that we don't have to like everything about the people we love?

I personally had a funny feeling about my DD's name when she was born - she didn't look at all like the name we had in mind for her and we went with a secondary list name - and she's grown into it beautifully IYSWIM.

Don't change your DD's name - change the way you feel about it!! It's a lovely name and goes well with Xante, which is another lovely name (we had our honeymoon there).

There is no perfect BTW!
Be nice to yourself - and congratulations on your family - all lovely names!

saggyhairyarse · 01/02/2010 22:27

If you would prefer an F name and like May, what about Fay - Xanthe Fay?

Or Faith?

picklemum · 01/02/2010 22:11

Btw, I actually do think it is ok-ish, as a name in a way.....
But it doesn't go with Xanthe first name or our surname. Actually it is maybe too similar to Xanthe, thats why it does't go.
And it doesn't suit her.

I think also because I was naming twins, and I had double the preg hormones.... it was hard ! I had to find 4 names, 2 x first and 2 x 2nd that we liked. I think we didn't get all 4 'right' and now its bugging me.

Mrsv and Pointydog, I was thinking 'just leave it' for the last few months.

But it just kept coming back into my mind. I made a mistake, i really dont like it. Think if i change it before she knows what a middle name is , then it won't trouble her.

She,ll never know it was different until I tell her aged 7 or older maybe.

I dont like the fact that my daughter has a middle name that I really dislike.

pointydog · 01/02/2010 21:57

It's only her middle name and she is now 2. Just forget about it

Celeste is lovely. {smile]

LynetteScavo · 01/02/2010 21:53

I think you are bonkers.

You want to change a name that will never hardly ever be used, but don't know what to change it to.

If you already had a name in mind, I could understand......
