Help me find a girl's name that goes with Ruben......

...who will be DD's big brother. My faves are Rosa and Una, but does it sound funny to either to have names starting with the same letter or both having the oo sound? Ruben and Julia is swimming round in my head for some reason, but I don't know if I'm brave enough for Julia, I love the sound of it, but is it a bit middle aged and dull in it's association? DH is obsessed with Eva, but I'm obsessed about it becoming too popular so I'd be really interested in whether you think it is.

So,

Ruben and Rosa
Ruben and Una
Ruben and Julia (or poss Julietta)
Ruben and Eva
or Ruben and ......

Which way should I go?

Cora? Tis a name which is growing on me at the mo.

RubiMama · 05/02/2010 21:56

Thanks for all your feedback. The idea of Ruben and Julia is really starting to settle in my head now, although I might need a Julia or Juliet thread to settle the matter once and for all!
Belindarose nice to hear you have a Julia, I like your MN name too!

Rosa is my favourite, but Julia and Juliet also lovely.

displayuntilbestbefore · 02/02/2010 10:56

Ruben and Julia sound nice
Ruben and Rosa not so good IMO

What about
Emily and Ruben?

SqueezyB · 02/02/2010 10:53

I know a Reuben and Ella, who are a very sweet brother and sister.

Julia is lovely though, and Juliet. How about Thea? Or something more Greek-influenced, if your husband is Greek?

belindarose · 02/02/2010 09:45

Joanna is lovely! I liked it but have a Josie/ Jo in the close family. Love Louisa too with Ruben (L surname, so off the list for us).

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/02/2010 22:44

I love the name Julia (and that poem by Robert Herrick which starts, I think, "Whenas in silk my Julia goes...")

Having said that, I keep seeing this thread and thinking that Joanna would go really well with Ruben.

choosyfloosy · 01/02/2010 22:37

Lots of lovely names here.

Juliet?

Ruben and Julia are lovely.

Julia is timeless, like Louisa and Helena, whereas, Julie, Louise and Helen sound more dated and less elegant.

belindarose · 01/02/2010 20:11

My baby DD is Julia and we love it. People either comment on how lovely it is, or say nothing (!) which is better than criticising.

RubiMama · 01/02/2010 18:34

I'm liking Aviva and Jemima, but I think Julia is working it's way into my heart now too
I was looking forward to naming a girl compared to DS, but I find it worse. At least wth boys names you either love or hate them. But with girls there are so many that are quite nice but I think not any that I love. I know I'll love my girl though no matter what name she gets

jemima good too

MrsBadger · 01/02/2010 16:13

another OT or Hebrew name would go well

Esther, Miriam, Susanna as already suggested

Naomi? Aviva? Leah? Hannah? Deborah?

RubiMama · 01/02/2010 16:03

The problem is have have been thinking about this for so long I can't even tell what I like anymore, I think I need a thinking about babynames break! I was thinking Julia sounded a bit middle aged...Anyway, thanks all for your feedback

I also don't understand why you have to be brave for Julia either. A lovely name which works well for child and adult.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2010 09:07

So, you like Julia, your DH loves Julia...? What is the problem. I don't think it's a name you have to be "brave" for.

diddl · 01/02/2010 09:03

I like Julia best from your list.

Miriam?

breadboard · 31/01/2010 18:34

Una is a gorgeous name and it is sooooo underused.
Reuben an Una sound fantastic together

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 31/01/2010 08:37

My Rebecca (always known as Becky) was going to have a brother called Reuben - but she turned out to be a girl instead.

RubiMama · 31/01/2010 08:29

Thankyou! Some lovely ideas. I like Polly, will try it out on DH. Halcyon I think you're right about Juliet over Julia but Greek DH is used to girl's names ending in 'a' and I think they just don't feel right to him unless they do. So Julia he loves, but Julietta is the compromise I'm trying to worm out of him.
Cece Glad you like Una, but not many people seem to, and while I don't think that bothers me so much I don't want DD to not like her nam either! Also liking Juliana, but maybe sounds a bit weak like Julia?

What about: Helen, Evelyn, Elin, Jocelyn...

cece · 30/01/2010 23:40

I like all of the names on your list.

Una was on our list for DC3! Top of the list was Verity or how about Juliana?

mrsruffallo · 30/01/2010 22:57

Ruben and Polly
