DC2 is due in early June, so lots of time to really panic about names but already have a substantial shortlist.

DSS is Seb
DD1 is known as Bella
Our surname is 2 syllables and begins with P

Violet (my fave)
Alice
Freya
Felicity (put off by not having found a 'nice' shortenable version)
Beatrix/Beatrice
Juliette
Eliza ( v similar name to 2 members of close family)
Pippa
Emily ( DHs current fave)
Olivia (put off by its popularity)

Gabriel ( my fave if we are brave enough)
Christopher ( known as Kit- I like Kit but really put off by Christopher)
Noah
Oliver ( loved this name for a long time but worried its too popular)
Barnaby (Silly havign two B names?)
Tobias (like this but DC would be known as Toby, and would share his name with a close family members pet!)
Henry
Isaac
Leo

I like your taste too!

Violet- nice but on the up I think and I also think of violent
Alice- lovely, classic
Freya- very nice but quite trendy
Felicity (put off by not having found a 'nice' shortenable version)- agree
Beatrix/Beatrice - lovely
Juliette - prefer Julia
Eliza ( v similar name to 2 members of close family) - lovely
Pippa - not keen
Emily ( DHs current fave)- perhaps a bit too popular
Olivia (put off by its popularity)- as above!

Gabriel ( my fave if we are brave enough)- really on the up - will become very popular I think
Christopher ( known as Kit- I like Kit but really put off by Christopher)- I like both!
Noah- lovely but trendy
Oliver ( loved this name for a long time but worried its too popular)- nice and classic despite popularity I think - but do you like Ollie?
Barnaby (Silly havign two B names?)- it's OK
Tobias (like this but DC would be known as Toby, and would share his name with a close family members pet!)- nice, don't worry about pet!
Henry - very popular round here - bit boring I think
Isaac - Don't like much
Leo - I am biased as I have one! Love it...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Is interesting to read peoples responses....except of course when they dont like my favourite name!!

Nancy66 I so hope you are wrong and it doesnt become uber popular.

DH decided today he might quite like Edward, so thats another maybe. I quite like Ted as nn but dont think i like it as some of the others on the list.

OP posts:
butadream · 31/01/2010 12:04

Girls - Like all except Beatrix and Pippa

Boys like all but what about Gregory (Greg) too?

vivivi · 31/01/2010 12:01

Violet is my fave, Felicity is also very nice could use Fliss as nn?

I love Henry for a little boy!

Raahh · 31/01/2010 10:48

Felicity and Beatrice are on my list, my niece is Alice (so couldn't have that) and my daughter MIllie Elizabeth, so you seem to like similarish girls names to me.
Juliet was dh's ex wife's name- so a no for me there, but a lovely name- without the 'te' at the end, i think. Also Julia is lovely and less used.
Not keen on Pippa, but do like Philippa. Agree that Olivia is a bit popular , but it is a classic, pretty name.

Isaac is the top (and only!) name on my boys list!
Fab list!

LaDiDaDi · 30/01/2010 18:46

Violet, ok but I often hear Violent/
Alice, lovely
Freya, a bit dul, I;m not keen
Felicity (put off by not having found a 'nice' shortenable version), I like it a lot but I agree re the shortenings.
Beatrix/Beatrice, like this but you don;t want Bea and Bella do you?
Juliette, prefer Juliet spelling but I really like this.
Eliza, my favourite from your list.
Pippa, like it
Emily, I like this, very classic imo
Olivia, put off by its popularity-me too!

Gabriel, not keen
Christopher, known as Kit- love Kit!
Noah, like it a lot
Oliver, too of the moment for me,
Barnaby nice name but Bella and Barney sounds silly imo.
Tobias (like this but DC would be known as Toby, and would share his name with a close family members pet!), lovely name
Henry, see Emily, was on shortlist for ds.
Isaac, lovely
Leo, was also on shortlist for ds, I love it.

I don't think so. Violet isn't so obviously pretty iyswim. It's an attractive sound, but it's a much stronger sound than Ruby. Part of Violet's appeal is that it's rare. I think somebody who had Violet on their short list would be more likely to reject it if somebody in their circle beat them to it than if the same happened with a list that had Ruby on it.

jmo

Nancy66 · 30/01/2010 14:31

I am absolutely convinced that Violet will be the next Ruby.

Lovely name but it seems to be popping up everywhere now. I know 3 under 1yr just in my immediate circle.

ilovesprouts · 30/01/2010 13:20

love noah/olivia

Bumperlicious · 30/01/2010 13:12

Great names, lots similar to mine. As for Freya, I wouldn't worry about shortening it, my DD has a 2 syllable name that can't really be shortened and I've never felt like it needed to be.

nikkisbump · 30/01/2010 12:42

Great list! I am expecting in June and my current list looks a little like yours!

Violet - LOVE love love! Wish my friend hadn't called her baby Violet in June..
Alice - It's OK
Freya - Love
Felicity - Love the full version, not the nn's
Beatrix/Beatrice - Beatrice is lovely
Juliette - Not so keen
Eliza - Lovely
Pippa - Not so keen
Emily - Lovely
Olivia - Popular but lovely

Gabriel - Gorgeous
Christopher - Similarly to you, I love this but I'm put off by thinking of a baby 'Christopher'. I am using this for my DC's middle name if they are a boy.
Noah - Looove
Oliver - Popular but lovely
Barnaby - I'm not so keen on this one
Tobias - Lovely, DC vetoed. Boo
Henry - Like
Isaac - Like
Leo - Like

SqueezyB · 30/01/2010 11:17

Ooh, lovely list!

I LOVE Violet - def my favourite.
Felicity not so keen, though for nicknames you can have Fliss or Flic.
Pippa - don't really like.
Emily/Olivia - nice but v popular.
Like all the other girls names but not as much as Violet.

Boys - like them all apart from Barnaby and Tobias. My favourites are Gabriel and Noah.

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2010 22:31

I think it was more the falling off his chair reaction that got me. I still like it and it definitely was not my first thought.

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2010 22:30

I'm at having just referred to DS as DS1. I wonder if I know something subconsciously??

Tobermory · 29/01/2010 22:29

Gaellicsheep - your DH is right it is the name of the knightrider car...I didn't make that connection immediately though.
Does that make it a no-go?
Will every person over the age of 30 hear the name and think of a talking car?!

Can'tsleep - I also worry about the barnaby bear thing.... am not convinced how well Barney makes the transition from cute baby to grown-up.

Janeite - I like Benedict but not so keen on Ben which it would inevitably get shortened to!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 29/01/2010 22:26

lol gs - we have the same problem with having given ds Elliot as his middle name, as that's the only name we agree on liking this time!

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2010 22:24

CSWS - I'm gutted that we used up Kester for one of DS1's middle names. We never expected to be able to have more than one child. If this one's a boy I think we've used up all of our favourite names!

MaggieTaSeFuar · 29/01/2010 22:23

i love Eliza, Juliet and Beatrix.

I like Leo best from your boys list.
