As simple as that really, what do you think of when you hear Jasper or what do you think of the name?.

Thanks

I really like it.

To me it is Jasper Hale from Twilight too-but I am a Twi-Hard

skyward · 02/02/2010 17:20

My son is called Jasper - we like it!!!!

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/02/2010 16:59

We have one so recommend it highly.

He is nearly 3 and never having glanced at a Twilight book had no idea there is a Jasper in them. He is regularly called Jas and it suits him. He is rather naughty though, it has to be said.

Congrats grumpy, grow Rosie grow.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 02/02/2010 16:49

I loved the name but every single person I said it to either said 'Carrot' or 'its a dogs name.'

RetroMum1 · 02/02/2010 09:19

Sorry to hear Rosie had too come out 5 weeks early grumpy, but really lovely to hear how well she is doing, I'm sure she'll fill out very quickly and you'll all be home soon.

We have a daughter Poppy and if this wasn't a Jasper she'd have been Rosie so beautiful name choice!.

Congratulations and enjoy your beautiful little one.

as an avid Twilight fanatic, I love the name!!! Jasper Hale is an excellent fictional character x

grumpymummybear · 01/02/2010 23:14

I like the name Jasper and it was on my list of boys names, partly cos my baby was conceived in Jasper. However no-one else around me liked it, in fact it got quite a negative response which shocked me and caused me to not tell anyone any other possible names so i wasn't put off them. I had baby Rosie last Monday emergency c 5 weeks early. she's in an incubator but all going well except that she is v small and has to grow, Rosie Grow!

zozzle · 01/02/2010 20:40

I like it - wonder how manly it sounds though compared to something like Tom or Jack etc - but that's probably just me.

JillJill32 · 31/01/2010 15:34

i like it. It is the name of one of the characters in the Twilight saga - which are all fairly old fashioned, but seem to be appearing more and more in the lists of curerent favourites (as they are all lovely names - imo)

Other names i like from Twilight are - Esme, Rosalie, Bella, Edward, Jacob

FrogmellaMoonbeam · 31/01/2010 13:26

JaynieB thats really really freaky as DS is Oscar and had DD been a DS she would have been a Jasper but had to be a Violet instead!

Manda25 · 31/01/2010 12:51

I love it !
Jasper was in our top 10 for our DS2 along with Evan, Toby, Perry, and Tate.

Linnet · 30/01/2010 18:52

I love the name Jasper, as a child I had a cuddly toy which I named Jasper and if I ever had a son I would call him this. Dh disagrees but seeing as our family is complete it's a moot point.

RetroMum1 · 30/01/2010 18:49

I really hope ours isn't going to be the naughtiest child in the school!.

The twilight thing is really annoying I haven't read them but I bet it will boost it up the charts.

The wasp thing is really funny/interesting I was born and brought up in Worcestershire and have recently returned here but I have never heard the term Jaspers!.

We live on a farm, so the outside them is great weehector. We also both work in the theatre so I guess an arty name was always going to work for us.

I quite like the nickname Jazz or Jazzy when he's little but DH hates both.

Like it a lot. It goes with Hector and Casper to me. I think of the geology -- it's a beautiful mineral, comes in red, green, yellow and brownish hues and sometimes blue, I think.

JaynieB · 30/01/2010 16:05

Some chums have just called DS2 this - their other boy is Oscar - and they are very arty folk!

Runoutofideas · 30/01/2010 16:01

The naughtiest boy in dd1's school is a Jasper... Not that that means anything but it's what the name says to me!

weehector · 30/01/2010 15:07

I like it but wouldn't have the balls.

Two associations for me:

Twilight - but that will pass as its only a flash phenomenon for a couple of years & he's a minor character...unlike Edward/Jacob.

a really, healthy outdoorsy kid - we ski in Canada every year > Jasper National Park so the name conjures up a picture of mountains & fresh air.

ooh just thought of a tenuous third...

Jasper Bloom - the slimy ex-boyfriend in The Holiday?

joanne34 · 29/01/2010 11:23

Jasper was a serious contender for my DS1... its cheeky.... lovely

BelgianMummy · 29/01/2010 11:15

We are thinking of calling our son that, but pronounced the Dutch way which is 'Yasper'.

Jojay · 28/01/2010 22:16

Love it! but I'm biased - DS1 is Jasper. Someone once described it as 'classic eccentric' which I thought summed it up beautifully.

Didn't know it was in Twilight though, with DS2 being Edward I'm bang on trend aren't I

cece · 28/01/2010 22:13

I think wasp.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but that is what we call wasps in Devon.

PurpleEglu · 28/01/2010 22:07

I like it, Always have, DH would not allow as a first name though It is on our list as a middle name for potential DS3 though

nancydrewrocks · 28/01/2010 18:12

I like it - is on my shortlist but DH would veto it as we have a friend of that name and so he thinks it is too close.

However I predict it is going to be very popular and I do seem to have a knack of picking not too popular names two years before they go flying to the top of the charts!

sarahsyrup · 28/01/2010 14:04

Like it, but prefer Casper, and Cas for short.

lola0109 · 28/01/2010 12:47

I love it, hate the nickname Jazz though for some reason. But I think the name Jasper is adorable.

But be careful as I think it is going to get very popular very quickly due to the Twilight Saga. I think Edward/Jasper/Emmett/Jacob/Bella are all going to shoot up the name charts.

(I'ma 30 year old woman by the way but LOVE the Twilight books )
