Flower Names- do i buck the trend?

Hi

I have two dd's both with flower names, rosa and daisy, and am now pregnant with girl no'3. do i continue with the flower theme or do i buck the trend and call her something totally un-flora related?
ooh i've just thought she could be called flora! ah ha!
I just dont want her to feel left out if i call her something like polly (or what ever)for instance.
My parents, and two out of three of my sisters names begin with A except for one of my sisters who's name begins with M and who concequently feels 'left out'.

What d'ya think?
Any good names appreciated too!

I really like Zinnia....or Amarylis is very pretty to say and written....Lis for NN?

Pingpong · 25/01/2010 09:08

'sets' of flower names just makes me think of Jamie Olivers daughters.

telsa · 25/01/2010 08:59

A less obvious flower name would be good, I agree. Maybe one of these! Oleander, Primula, Sorrel, Ulma, Verbena, Xylia, Yolanda, Crina, Cliantha, Delphine, Floriane, Jacinda, Kiri, Kezia, Lori.

diddl · 25/01/2010 08:08

Like Briony.

One of my fave names is Hebe.

Albertine · 25/01/2010 06:26

I too think it would be twee if you decided to do it just for the sake of it. Pick a name you love. I think your future daughter might feel more left out if her name is chosen just to fit a theme when her sisters' names were chosen because you love them.

skidoodle · 25/01/2010 05:13

Iris = iris robinson

CarmenSanDiego · 25/01/2010 05:06

I agree with nooka. Go with an 'unobvious' flower or plant name. What about Sorrel?

Ianthe means violet too.

Cloris is another 'goddess of the flowers' name but a bit close to Clorox if you're American Xeni is another flower goddess name.

I also like Hazel, Snowdrop and Rowan. Oh, and Snowdrop!

nooka · 25/01/2010 02:27

I think a whole set of obvious flower names could be terribly twee, so if you want to do it make sure that you use names that people don't immediately think "ahh a matching set" so Iris, Anthea, Jasmine, Alyssa, Zinnia not Poppy, Lily etc (esp if your Rosa is ever known as Rosie).

shockers · 24/01/2010 23:33

travel well into adulthood...

shockers · 24/01/2010 23:32

Briony or Rowan... I think they both travel into adulthood well too.

LittlePushka · 24/01/2010 23:29

I'd stay with the floral...delightful!

Sorrel was my choice for DC 1 who is DS1!

LadyBee · 24/01/2010 23:22

Briar

Toffeepopple · 24/01/2010 22:30

I think Heather is a wonderful name and also Hazel and Iris.

My friends daughter is Lilian, called Lily for short. That's quite nice.

TigerDrivesAgain · 24/01/2010 22:27

Anthea = Anthea Turner.

neversaydie · 24/01/2010 22:23

How about Anthea - goddess of the flowers?

Wolfblass · 24/01/2010 22:14

My step daughter is Heather and dp's Aunt is Flora, both of which are lovely.

I have a cousin and Aunt named Hazel, although i find that name very bland

My Dalmatian is Willow

I love Lilly - although popular i think it's rather timeless

DP would of been Poppy was he a she, however he despises it

Iris i adore

Marigold? I just think yellow rubber glove lol

Acacia
Delphine
Eliza
Elodie
Fleur
Jasmine
Lilliane
primrose
Yasmin

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2010 21:36

Yes Columbine would be lovely, but being American I can of course never look at it the same way.

I love Hazel, Poppy, and Iris and actually am quite fond of Marigold due to "Magic For Marigold", an L.M. Montgomery book I read approximately 15,000 times the year I was ten.

cityangel · 24/01/2010 21:32

More trees...

columbine... lovely... but horrible massacre in america comes to mind

names are such a nightmare they always have bad associations for someone.

randomimposter · 24/01/2010 21:08

another vote for Iris.... think they suit the other names best. But not too matchy matchy, as Daisy and Poppy would be...

cityangel · 24/01/2010 21:07

I like the theme or you could expand it to Hazel, Heather, Willow, Acacia...

bellarosa · 24/01/2010 21:07
