Ivy. Iris gives me a mental image of someone pale, coldish and willowy and even a bit churchy or prim, and of course Iris Robinson, but Ivy would suit any kind of shape or appearance. To me it's a 'warmer' name.

Ivy. It was the name of my grandma in law. I think it's lovely, I was going to use it as a middle name, if we have another little girl.

Iris! I love that name, but we can't use it if Immy has a sister as we don't want to have another I (postal confusion etc.).

I think they're both lovely names. I've worked with a teacher called Iris and have taught an Ivy and would happily use either (although my DH wouldn't!) Ivy was never called anything like 'poison Ivy' but then again the children had no idea what ivy was until we went out of London on a residential trip where we spotted some ivy and took a photo of Ivy and ivy. Older children may make the connection I suppose but I think an Ivy is more likely to be called Divey Ivy, Bivey Ivy or some other made-up word that rhymes with Ivy in the same way that 4-year-olds might say Alice Balice!

Iris. Beautiful name - strong yet pretty. Would've been on my list had it gone with surname. Ivy is a bit more 'old lady' and for some reason I always associate it with spiders (ie lurking within).

hard to shorten - alhotugh it can be and easy to spell, people don't ask how which way do you spell it?

Both lovely. Iris more 'classic' as Iris was the Greek Goddess of the rainbow.

Iris, it's lovely but should have blue eyes IMO...don't know why.

I know lots of Iris' especially under 4. Both lovely names but prefer Ivy
