Hello all. Advice needed on our latest name choice - Cécile.
We really want a French name to keep her French identity as she grows up in UK. I am English, papa is French! However we would like a name that can not be pronounced in different ways such as Anais.
Our latest choice is Cécile Rose. Too old fashioned?

I think its a gorgeous name, as is Cecilie/Cecily. Celine makes me think of the mad Dion woman....

Celine?

mopsyflopsy · 24/01/2010 11:57

I thought Cecil was a boys name?

Should point out I'm going the other way though as we're based in France. Need a name the English will understand or as sneakily Enlgish-made-to-look-French as I can get a way with! Hence Cecilie, which is just a Frenchified spelling of Cecily but doesn't actually exist in French. Don't know whether I'lll be allowed that though.

Cecile (or Cecilie) is my choice for a DD!

LynetteScavo · 24/01/2010 10:51

I do like Cecile, but Celeste is slightly nicer, IMO.

BTW Cecilia can be either English or French. But then I love Cécile. Just wish my husband weren't such a stick in the mud Englishman.

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 24/01/2010 10:45

I like it. I prefer Cecily though but it's just easier for me to say

Celine? is that a bit softer. British people possible more familiar with its prononciation.

duchesse · 24/01/2010 10:45

Celeste? I really wanted this for DD1's middle name, but my husband thought it was too French. I should have stuck to my guns because she hates the middle name we compromised on.

pointydug · 24/01/2010 10:42

It's ok. More Cecil sounding in English. Do you like Clara?

ErikaMaye · 24/01/2010 10:36

I think its lovely
