These are the final three names which we have (finally) decided on!

Could you list them in your order of preference please?

Middle names would also be very welcome for any one of the three!

Thanks. . .

My dgd has a Turkish Mum and she is Serra
I really dont like Kismet and havent heard of it as a name there.Dgd has friends named Selen,Deniz,Askinsu [ashkinsue],Dilara,Ceran[jeran] and Ozen [Ozanne]

marriedinwhite · 17/02/2012 21:58

Declares Gizmo's interest.

Would add - hated it totally and utterly as a child but not helped by an odd character in Diana magazine. Grew into it as an adult but feel that I only carry it off because I am uber posh. It does not shorten - DH is allowed to but only DH.

A lot depends on your last name which I think needs to be simple. One really can't stand and spell "h e r m i o n e something very unusual".

its

I started off not liking Kismet, but now you've explained its relevance to you, it's become my favourite by miles.
And Kizzy is lovely.
Pl make sure you use it - even if only as a middle name!

Hermione - is a beautiful name, but I knew one and she was both boring & a right pain, so biased against. Think I wouldn't because of Harry Potter.

Genevive - why does this remind me of a 1960s movie about a car? It is cute though.

PestoPenguin · 17/02/2012 19:10

Genevieve
Hermione
Kismet

mumofjust1 · 17/02/2012 19:07

Genevive - beautiful Grin
Hermione - ditto
Kismet - unsure

PopcornBiscuit · 17/02/2012 19:03

Hermione by a long way.

LaFilleSurLePont · 17/02/2012 12:37

Zombie thread people.

Frontpaw · 17/02/2012 12:13

I thought Kismet meant fate (as in the historically inaccurate 'Kismet, Hardy')..

Stellan · 17/02/2012 12:07
  1. Hermione
  2. Genevieve
  3. Kismet

I really like the sound of 'Kismet' but I think it's a name for a pet, not a daughter.

OneWeekToGo · 17/02/2012 08:05

Kismet was a horse in one of my gran's 1960s Girl Annuals. I actually quite like it, but for a boy (half a vote?!)

Two4One · 24/01/2010 19:06

Call her Susan and stop being pretentious.

LadyCressida · 24/01/2010 17:29

Hermione is my middle name and I really like it so I am very tempted to use it as such if my baby is a girl. But I can't think of any nn that I like so prob wouldn't use it for a first name.

Genevieve is nice.

Not keen on Kismet - sorry.

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2010 02:50

I think Genevieve Kismet is nice

nooka · 24/01/2010 02:43

Genevieve is lovely. I don't like Hermione (sounds very whiny, and I wonder about the nn potential - Hermie? Mi? Ony?). Kismet surely isn't a name but a word meaning fate or destiny. I suppose sme peopel have been called Destiny, but in my mind that's not a good name either.

No, Genevieve. Nice name, with nns Gwinny (I love) or Jenny. Although having read the rest of the thread and seen the Turkish connection, possibly Kismet (and Kizzy is rather nice).

SE13Mummy · 23/01/2010 22:40

Hermione followed by Genevieve with Kismet as a middle name (or possibly use Faith instead?). Yasmin (jasmine flower) or Sofya (wisdom) might work as Turkish middle names.

seeker · 23/01/2010 21:51

If Kismet is used as a name in Turkey, then go for it. If it isn't, it's the same as me as an English person calling my child Trancendence or Spirituality.

GrendelsMum · 23/01/2010 19:35

I was going to say 'G,H, and then K a long way behind', but I'm actually now coming round to 'Kismet' pronouced 'Kismit', and 'Kizzy' for short. Presumably you have a Turkish surname, so a Turkish first name might sound better than an English one. Do you think you could spell it slightly differently to distinguish it from takeaways?

MummyThimble · 23/01/2010 19:15

JuneyBean - Kismet is pronounced 'Kismit' or 'Kismut (putting a slight 'e' sound in with the 'u'). I think it's rather pretty too, it's a shame about all those takeaways!

Thanks for all the opinions so far, I'm still not quite decided!

goodluck

JaynieB · 23/01/2010 19:05

I rather like Kismet, but tis alternative.

juneybean · 23/01/2010 18:57

How's Kismet pronounced? I think it looks pretty on paper.

seeker · 23/01/2010 18:42

I know a Hermione - nicknamed Mi - pronounced My. I really like that!

SqueezyB · 23/01/2010 18:12

I think given your DH is Turkish so there is a background to it then Kismet is actually quite a nice name - Kizzy for short is cute. However hate to say it but we also have a Kismet curry house nearby, so if it's a popular name for indian takeaway shops maybe think again...

allthatjazz · 23/01/2010 10:03

I LOVE Hermoine
Genevieve is ok but couldnt be swayed from Hermoine
Kismet is lovely in terms of honouring your DP and his background. I would probably use it as a middle name though
