Juliette or Eugenie?

What are your honest thoughts?

Juliette - what spelling would you choose Juliet/Juliette?

Eugenie - Not overly used, sounds pretty to my ears pn Eu-zjen-ie, am I missing something?

Thanks!

Doozie I would agree with that.

Eugenie is gorgeous. I pronounce it 'YOU-zhay-nay'. The Duchess of York says that she pronounces it (her daughter's name) as 'Use yer knee'. Which somehow isn't so nice!

No not posh, and definitely don't won't to be seen as trying too hard. So Eugenie not a name for the masses? Juliet/Juliette - not the same problem?

Juliet - it's feminine but not twee. Classic. I don't think of Romeo instantly

Eugenie is a bit posh - which is OK if you are posh. Are you posh ? . You'll also have problems with spelling and pronunciation, I think

Fayrazzled I know what you mean. Eugenie does look a bit ugly - but it sounds nice! I was never a big fan of the name before but now it is really growing on me. It is definitely on the list.

With Juliet, do you instantly think of Romeo?

I love Eugenie, really unusual but pretty. Genie is a lovely NN too.

I don't like Eugenie at all- "looks" ugly to me. I much prefer Juliette with that spelling.

SqueezyB · 21/01/2010 12:30

I prefer Juliet. Only because I worked with a Eugenie and she was lovely but I never felt like I was pronouncing her name right and it felt a bit rude to keep asking!
