Just seen that someone I used to know now has a little girl and has called her Miele (French for honey). I think it LOOKS beautiful, but how would you pronounce it? Mi-EL or Mee-lay?

Of course! Miel is actually honey!

Wonder where little Miele was conceived then? Currys?

or dyson?

Miele the white goods manufacturer is pronounced to rhyme with Sheila.

trellism · 19/01/2010 22:34

Mine too. Miele is a nice name (German?) but perhaps too associated with quality household appliances.

bwaaaaahaaahaaa

tis an 'oover

kissyfurschaos · 19/01/2010 22:33

Ditto Name of my hoover but spelt the french way would be fine and I like the meaning.

SpeedyGonzalez · 19/01/2010 22:33

What pointy said. And what niggle said.

But 'Miele' is probably a German variation of the French, for the brand name (it's not German for 'honey'). They'd prob pronounce it 'Mee-el-uh'.

fembear · 19/01/2010 22:33

miel is French, miele is Italian.
But ROFL at naming your kid after the fridge.

MollieO · 19/01/2010 22:33

You can't possibly name your dd Miele. You would be setting her up for a life in domestic slavery - washing clothes, dishwashing, vacuum cleaning...

Irishchic · 19/01/2010 22:32

Oh FGS

Miel - French for honey, pronounced Mee-ell

Miele - Producer of white goods.

nigglewiggle · 19/01/2010 22:30

I think is sounds nice, but it is the name of my hoover!

Meglet · 19/01/2010 22:29

isn't it also a brand of fridge / washing machine?

Sounds pretty though.

pointysaysrelax · 19/01/2010 22:29
