What would you shorten elizabeth to...

Now I know all the nn's for Elizabeth but just interested on the general opinion.

So my question is, if you had an Elizabeth what would be your favourite nn/shortening?

Mine's is Lizzie, DP is Beth so for this reason we can't agree on this name.

I would just stick to Elizabeth and let her decide later.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:39

My middle name is elizabeth. I chose to call my middle child Elsie, a form of it. It really suits her. My aunty is called Liza though.

Ronaldinhio · 15/01/2010 21:05

betty is adorable

Botbot · 15/01/2010 21:01

I know an Elizabeth in her 40s who has always just been Elizabeth.

Botbot · 15/01/2010 21:00

I'd do Betty too. Cute. (it's DD's middle name)

BikeRunSki · 15/01/2010 20:59

Libby

lilolilmanchester · 15/01/2010 20:57

so lovely to see your name slagged off on MN!!!!!

campion · 15/01/2010 20:28

Don't shorten it. Elizabeth's lovely and would be unusual as everyone named Elizabeth seems to be known as something else.

For the record, my friend has an Elizabeth who's now 21 and who's never been known as anything else. Maybe that is a record.

Eliza, Libby, Bess or Beth - probably Bess as it's a little sassier than Beth or at least the sappier one in Little Women!

Less keen on Betty, Liz, Lizzie, Lilibet

piscesmoon · 15/01/2010 19:47

Lizzie when little, Liz when older. Beth is OK but hate Betty and Betsy.
I wouldn't shorten it at all-see what evolves and what she wants when older. If my parents called me Beth I would change it to Liz as soon as I was old enough to realise that I could.

WinkyWinkola · 15/01/2010 19:44

Betty. I love Betty but I don't like Elizabeth.

If I ever have another daughter, I'd want to call her Betty or Babette or Tabitha (far fetched I know!) so just so as I could call her Betty.

largeginandtonic · 15/01/2010 19:43

Betty.

HuwEdwards · 15/01/2010 19:39

Lizzy

I like beth and in fact nearly called dd elizabeth in order to get to beth, I like names that have lots of different nn.

Beasknees · 15/01/2010 19:33

i like Bebe for a shortening of Elizabeth

lilolilmanchester · 15/01/2010 19:23

why not just go for the shortened version in the first place? We did with DD - which people on here seem to like. OTH, shortened version of my name has been slagged of big time!!!

jellybeans · 15/01/2010 19:18

Beth is the nicest

JamesandHisFlamingSword · 15/01/2010 17:46

I really like Elizabeth, and would consider it for my (mythical) daughter. But I would never choose Liz as a nn (sorry)

JamesandHisFlamingSword · 15/01/2010 17:43

Betty
Beth

or Elle

TheFallenMadonna · 15/01/2010 16:05

Lizzie and Bess

Loathe Beth. Irrationally. I blame Little Women.

I think you can get away with having different nicknames from different people. DD seems to manage. She quite likes it in fact.

juneybean · 15/01/2010 15:50

I love Liz or Eliza

TinaSparkles · 15/01/2010 15:49

Libby or Beth for me if needed to be shortened. I do think Elizabeth is a beautiful name in its own right.

Not keen or the Liz/Lizzie version either.
Makes me think of Liz MacDonald from Corrie or Mad Lizzie the aerobics instructor from TVAM (waaay back).
