What do you think?

This will be the full name. Not short for Margaret or anything else.

Peggy brings Swallows and Amazons to mind... sort of OK

piscesmoon · 17/01/2010 22:19

Dreadful! At least give her Margaret, which is pretty, and she can choose her own option.

Merle · 17/01/2010 22:19

I've never understood how 'Margaret' becomes 'Peggy'. I was about 25 before I realised. I mean, it's not an obvious nn, is it?

Vivia · 17/01/2010 22:14

I'm sorry but at 'is your baby 80?'

Sunshinemummy · 14/01/2010 10:30

I like it a lot.

thisisyesterday · 14/01/2010 09:58

mummyloveslucy · 14/01/2010 09:56

My dd 1 (5 yrs) has Peggy as her middle name - after my grandmother who was a wonderful woman. It's unusual, but my thoughts were that she knows exactly why she has that name so she can tell everyone and be proud. Go with it.

goingforitagain · 13/01/2010 13:23

Granny name..... sorry its hideous!

Bessie123 · 13/01/2010 13:17

Is your baby 80?

greensnail · 13/01/2010 13:16

I love it, have been trying to convince DH but without success. Maybe I'll try him with Margaret but I really prefer just Peggy too.

redllamayellowllama · 13/01/2010 13:14

I like Peggy very much. Go for it.

DecorHate · 13/01/2010 13:11

If you don't like Margaret how about Margureite (sp?)

MaggieMnaSneachta · 13/01/2010 13:03

I love Margaret, Maggie, Greta, Margot, Daisy.... any of the nick names, except Peggy.

I'm not sure how I can love Maggie and hate Peggy. I realise that's not entirely logical. But there you are.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 13/01/2010 13:03

My initial links with the name are

my Grandmother was called Peggy,

Peggy in MadMen and she is a lovely character

Peggy Mitchell - Eastenders

Peggy Sue - the song

and Peggy Sue Got Married - the film

so 4 good ones from 5 isn't bad (Peggy Mitchell being the bad one), as long as you don't use Sue as a middle name

I think it is definitely set for a big comeback as people seem to be into 'old lady' names at the moment.

myfirstbump · 13/01/2010 12:49

Lol @ Peggy Mitchell. I always think Peggy Patch from Playdays...

Still working on DH to consider it.

Stick to your guns about not being short for Margaret

snowylass · 13/01/2010 12:45

Sorry to say that I don't like it. I think it is one of the old lady names that is totally bizarre on a young child (know a 5yo called Peggy). I also know a 70 year old Peggy who is a total busybody who goes round terrorising everyone who lives nearby so perhaps my opinion is harsh. I do prefer Margaret and it does give more options and doesn't tie the child to Peggy.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/01/2010 12:44

Hi-de-Hi!!!

I like weegiemum's spelling Peigi - a lot less cleaning/dinnerlady.

There's a baby called Peggy in Brighton.

Don't use Margaret though, that is a horrible name.

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 13/01/2010 12:37

DD was Margaret (as in Margaret from Litte Britain who lives upstairs in the shop) when she was inside, then became Peggy. I didn't call her that when she was born, but still think of it fondly sometimes. I announced it as 'Peggy's here' though before I decided on her name!! It's really sweet.

MamaLazarou · 13/01/2010 12:34

I like it a lot. I love dinner-lady names.

I know a Meghan known as Peggy - she is fab.

timinyday · 13/01/2010 10:11

Thanks. Still won't be convinced on Margaret though.
