Names you dislike

What names come to mind that you dislike?

If your/your DC's name comes up, don't be offended, not everyone can like it!

Tyler
Kai
McKenzie
Bailey
Taylor
Blake

Trying too hard names or twee cutesy girly names.

zozzle · 11/01/2010 19:10

Overly frilly (v. prim) names make me feel rather nauseous - like people are trying too hard.

And I don't get the whole "my child must have an original name at all costs" thing. Yes its good if its not really popular, but I say that people should pick a name they love first and foremost.

I think Noah has to grow on you tbh, im surprised that nobody has wrote caiden as nobody liked that when i asked for opinions. just giving ideas.

motherlovebone · 11/01/2010 11:49

like Noah, makes me think Know-er

BigusBumus · 11/01/2010 11:49

PIAP, actually I wish i hadn't put Noah now as its really not that bad!

But i did just think of Mason which i loathe.

I've often been told by people that they hate my DS1s name (Miles) but i am not easily offended!

Pingpong · 11/01/2010 11:47

MummikinsOopNorth was stirring lots last night on the baby names threads.
The point of this thread? To wind you up!
Ignore or discuss but don't get offended !

FWIW I get really annoyed when people say they don't like surnames as first names as if it some new fangled thing. It's been happening in Scotland for a very long time.
eg Bruce, Gordon, Martin, John, Campbell, Cameron, Lewis, Grant, Donald, Allan. I know people with these names as surnames or first names. Totally interchangeable.
I do however dislike Mc something as a first name.

PoppyIsApain · 11/01/2010 11:34

Bigusbumus i used to hate Noah with a vengence but now it has wriggled its way into my brain and i think it goes very well with Archie....
I think it is lovely now
I dislike Alfie though.

hattee · 11/01/2010 11:28

thanks MrsvWoolf

BigusBumus · 11/01/2010 11:25

I have an irrational hatred of Alfie. And Noah.

PoppyIsApain · 11/01/2010 11:22

Kevin and Kelvin.
I think thats it for now

I couldn't care less if peple odn't like my DC's names because I do.

some people are jsut too sensitive.

If someone asked, "what fornt door colour don't you like" I would say yellow, but would a yellow front door owner be upset by that? I doubt it ...because they like it.

I don't like people saying my own name is "bleugh, uninteresting and grey", though. (Which has been said on here). And I'm not talking about Lynette. (Which is an awful name! )

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/01/2010 10:57

Its a thread where you can say the names you dislike ...

othersideofchannel · 11/01/2010 10:53

What is the point of this thread?

hattee · 11/01/2010 10:46

Can I just check - when people talk about surnames being used as first names, do they just mean traditional surnames like Mckenzie? Lots of popular first names can also be used as surnames (Oliver, Thomas, George, Alexander, James etc.). I like all of these so I hope these aren't the names you all dislike

LynetteScavo · 11/01/2010 10:41

Actually I have a great long list of names I don't like, but haven't got time to post them.

LynetteScavo · 11/01/2010 10:40

Is Alice that popular?

I've only met one little girl called Alice.

I don't like any name that could be used for either sex. I don't like ot be confused.

motherlovebone · 11/01/2010 10:39

Bryan, even though i knew a lovely Brian.

Oh, Ethan, though its popular, its the boys Ethel.

What everyone else said.

Love Ramona though.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/01/2010 10:33

I really dislike a very popular girls name. I know 3 girls with this name, one of them is my dd's best friend. But I just irrationally dislike it: Alice.

bellissima · 11/01/2010 10:29

All too often this becomes a 'let's snigger at ordinary people and their common names'. Okay, I admit I don't like surnames used as names. Or (most) hyphenated names. But I also don't like fairy-dairy top of the Christmas tree names like Annabelle, Arabella, Elodie, Aurelie et al. And have to agree that Leslie (girl or boy), Gordon, Nigel, Raymond, Roy, Deirdre, Daphne (sort of 1940s/50s 'driving glove wearers' names) are not my cup of tea.

But then I happen to know two lovely Nigels. It's the person not the name.

sweetkitty · 11/01/2010 09:59

Same as pisces but to be honest I don't really dislike any name.

What other people chose to call their DC is up to them really, whilst sometimes you think I wouldn't call one of mine that, it's their choice at the end of the day.

However, sometimes you know and really dislike someone with that name and it puts you off it for life.

Bucharest · 11/01/2010 08:36

Joshua and Finley are irrational boy hatreds and Emily and Lucy are irrational girl ones.

Perfectly nice names, but make my teeth itch.

Apart from that, the categories nominated by pisces with the addition of hyphenated ones ending in May etc.
