Help! Twins due March and no names really hitting the spot!

ZuzuandZara · 09/01/2010 20:10

DH and I are expecting our first babies, twins, early March. Don't know the sex. I have lots of girls names I like, not sure if I love them, and definately short on boys names. Preferences for girls names from our list please, other ideas welcome, and any boys name suggestions greatly received! Sorry girls list is long! I like fairly traditional, not to flouncy, not too popular and like nick names. Also like boy nicknames for girls. My username is what my friends 5 year old has called the babies!

Harriet
Charlotte
Alexandra
Rosie (Rosemary?)
Maisie
Georgina/Georgia
Maria
Gracie
Freya
Lucy
Miranda nn Mizzie

Charlie
Alexander
Stanley

Our surname is one syllable. Be kind please

Ben & Jerry?

Thanks everybody, you've given me loads to think about (actually, that's just made things harder!)
Boodleboot, watch this space, with DH current suggestions of Bear and Eagle (I think he's joking!) we might just stick with Zuzu and Zara

How about something like Christopher (Kit or Chris), Jonathan (Jon or Jonnie) or Timothy (Tim)?

We found boys names really hard too. If Harriet had been a boy she'd have been Jonathan or Benjamin, possibly Benedict. If DD2 had been a boy she was going to be Jude.

ZuzuandZara · 10/01/2010 00:57

Especially for boys Must go to bed, it's ridiculous o'clock.

I think zuzu and zara are quite nice too

ZuzuandZara · 10/01/2010 00:33

I know an adult Charlotte who is called Lottie (which I'm not that keen on) and an adult Georgina who is called George. Lol at lady in next hospital bed, they'll always be one I'm sure! We're keeping name choices firmly secret to avoid comments from family and friends in the hope that everyone will be polite once they are actally named! I seem to have too many people in my life that feel the need to tell me what to do, most recently what colour to paint nursery! Sorry, ranting now!

I don't know any Charlottes or Georgias who go by Charlie or George actually.

I am not keen on girls called George and such, but maybe that's because my name is a boy's name too. I agree with zuzu that it's important that a name tells the listener the sex of the child.

Having said that when I told the lady in the next bed in hospital DS2's name, her response was "oh I like that for a girl" ??? (It was approx like saying "oh I like Stanley for a girl").

Thanks Jelly, food for thought.....

I like Hattie as a nn. I know what you mean about the Harry/Charlie/George thing, I do like boy nn for girls but I do wonder if it's better for people to know what sex my kids are from their names without having to ask or making assumptions?!

I like Imogen, Felicity and Imogen, not that keen on the boy suggestions, am finding girls names a lot easier!

I like Harriet but may be biased as m 5-year-old is one (she goes by Hattie a lot of the time)! We went for Harriet because we liked that in time to come she could choose to call herself Harry which is another name we like.

If you were to go for any combination of Harriet/Charlotte/Georgia then you could end up with Harry/Charlie/George which may or may not appeal to you.

From your list of names the ones that don't feature in my school are: Harriet, Charlotte, Maria and Miranda. I can only think of a couple of Stanleys.

How about Matilda, Keziah, Imogen (could be 'Mo' or 'Jenny'), Judith, Felicity, Jemima, Eliza, Louisa, Beatrice, or Miriam?

For boys how about Henry, Rupert, Tobias, Benedict or Digby?

ZuzuandZara · 09/01/2010 22:22

Thanks littlemiss, will do

Good, I think Maisie is the top of my girls list! Sounds nice with our surname. I only know one(very old) Maisie. Oh and one dog! Not bothered about misspelling.

Sorry, I don't know why it won't work, but if you go to google and type in 'office for national statistics baby names' you should be able to find it from there.

Motherlove, sorry again, am rejecting the biblical theme, although I myself am one of those girls names! Am loving Seuss though...off to research...

OP posts:
Clary · 09/01/2010 22:07

Oh Maisie is not that popular - off the top of my head I can think of 3 (aged 5-8)which isn't many (I know a lot of children thru school).

Thing is about Maisie is that it will be misspelled if that bothers you - it's quite commonly spelled Maisy and one mum I know complains about misspellings. (I think she has a Maisy).

ZuzuandZara · 09/01/2010 22:07

littlemiss, thanks but I can't seem to access that link?

motherlovebone · 09/01/2010 22:05

if not royal, biblical?

Zach, Reuben, Solomon, Michael

Ruth, Naomi, Rachael, Mary

if not biblical, Seussian??

Thing 1 and Thing 2

How wonderful to be expecting twins by the way, good luck for March!

ZuzuandZara · 09/01/2010 22:00

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Disappointed that Maisie is popular because it's one of my favourites, doesn't put me off completely though. Think I quite like Fraser..

Good grief, this is harder than being enormously pregnant with fat, swollen feet and horrible indigestion this name chosing malarky!
