Clementine with Clemmy as a nickname.

wasabipeanut · 10/01/2010 14:37

Hello Clary yes I am a Penny, well, a Pen more often than not.

I hated my name when I was a kid but as an adult decided that actually it was ok.

Clary · 09/01/2010 21:54

That's nice that you like yr name wasabi, I don't like mine at all!

Are you Penny then - that's a good name actually, nice for a little one then lots of optiosn when older. Also not too popular.

wasabipeanut · 09/01/2010 21:23

BTW, I love Penelope as well but then I would as it is my real life name.

I only ever use it when I am trying to be posh for some reason but it's nice to have the choice. Nell isn't my usual nn but I do think it's lovely.

loobylu3 · 09/01/2010 20:18

They are all great choices.

Sylvie- v pretty, suits child and adult
Emmeline- lovely, classic. My only hesitation is that there are a lot of Emilys and Emmas around so her name may blend in more than you want.
Clementine-lovely- would you use a nn?
Nell- love it but love Penelope nn Nell even more
Mabel- different style- less feminine but I still like it.

wasabipeanut · 09/01/2010 19:30

Bella I love all of these - especially Emmeline and Clementine. Emmeline was on mine and DH's short list for ages but becase we also had it as a possible for DS before he was born we decided against as it felt like a sort of 2nd hand name IYSWIM. Shows how much we love the name though.

Clementine was a little too unconventional for my pinstripe DH but I love it - Clem and Clemmie are such lovely nicknames.

I also LOVE Clemency but when I mentioned it on a thread everyone hated it bar about 2 people which shouldn't matter of course but DH wasn't keen either.

jumpyjan · 09/01/2010 19:20

We have very similar tastes 3 of your names were on my shortlist. We decided on Clementine and I love it - however we had a boy!

pranma · 09/01/2010 19:02

I really like Clemency and Nell

MrsJohnDeere · 09/01/2010 19:00

Emmeline

I rather like Mabel too.

glasgal · 09/01/2010 18:51

Emmeline because of Emmeline Pankhurst

glasgal · 09/01/2010 18:50

Emmeline because of Emmeline Pankhurst

BellaBalloon · 09/01/2010 17:46

Thanks Blue - Mabel has been shelved

Hi Bella

Love Emmeline and Sylvie and you are the one giving birth so have lots of leverage with your DP!

Don't like Mabel - bit too matronly...

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 08/01/2010 22:26

Clemency or Mabel, for me. Or Emmeline if you can reverse the veto!

natapillar · 08/01/2010 22:22

Clementine is adorable, and it isn't heard often. vry pretty name

Clary · 08/01/2010 22:14

OOOh Mabel is my all time fave but vetoed by DH name

To be fair it sounds a bit odd with our surname.

I also like Emmeline more because of associations.

PollyTechnique · 08/01/2010 22:06

Clementine is beautiful!

QandA · 08/01/2010 21:47

I like them all. Sylvie/Sylvia is becoming more popular now, but only because it is so lovely, though I prefer Sylvie out of the 2.

I am liking Clementine more and more, I really like Clem as a NN.

ironlikealion · 08/01/2010 21:45

I only like Sylvie and Mabel from that list, or Nell if it's nn for Helen.

dizzydixies · 08/01/2010 21:42

thank you BellaBalloon - we didn't go with any of those however but still happy with the one we did choose!! we have 3 dds all with 3 names each

still an option for DD4 if that ever happens

BellaBalloon · 08/01/2010 21:38

dizzy may I say you have excellent taste

OP posts:
MaryMungo · 08/01/2010 21:37

Sylvie as is and Nell if it's short for Helen.

BellaBalloon · 08/01/2010 21:37

incandescent i totally agree with you on the Sylvie front. i think it's sweet for a little one and then sexy for an older one. Sadly DH just isn't feeling it.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 08/01/2010 21:35

Clementine, Nell and Sylvie are all gorgeous

we considered clementine nn Cleo
Sylvanna nn Sylvie
and Penelope nn Nell for DD3

BellaBalloon · 08/01/2010 21:34

Thanks everyone. Am so chuffed that they have been mainly well received! I can't test them out on RL peeps because did that early on in the pregnancy and got all sorts of responses that I did not want.

DH has just shortlisted to Clementine or perhaps Clemency
Nell
Mabel

I think I ditch Mabel because I don't think I would want to be 30 and called Mabel although it's a very sweet name of a kid imo.

I have history and connections with Emmeline and love it for that but has just been vetoed...
