Evelyn
Thea
Eleanor

I really struggle with girls names, I have loads of boys names in mind which I love. But there is not one girls name I can think of that I really like - strange hey.

The above 3 I quite like, but only quite like, can anyone add any suggestions and inspire me.

Pleaeeeese

PS I already have a DS who is named Noah

I think I like Evelyn best from your list although you may run the risk of having to correct pronounciation all the time e.g. Eve-lyn vs Ev-lyn. Also, paired with Noah if it was abbreviated to Eve your children will sound quite Biblical (not that this is a problem!).

Round here (South London) Noah is a pretty popular name and there are an increasing number of Thea/Theadora type names around too so I suppose it would depend on how popular a name you're after. There are millions of Eleanor/Ellie/Elle/Ellie-May around too, or so it seems.

Paired with Noah I like: Rachel, Rebekah (or Rebecca), Miriam, Martha, Esther, Ruth, Bethany, Judith, Anna, Tabitha, Madeleine and Lydia. It probably shows that I quite like both Biblical and 'old fashioned' names!

I have a dd called Mabel, Maggie was high on my list......in fact I think Simpson before Thatcher and I grew up in the 80s!

Also love the name Posy....which would have been ds3 if he had been dd2!

Funnily enough, Evelyn and Eleanor were my grandmothers' names - and neither liked them! Evelyn always used her mn (Mary - spot the Catholic side of the family!), and Eleanor didn't like being called Nellie (twas Yorkshire). Hasten to say that I like both names and have used both! Well various great aunts ie same vintage were Alice, Emily, Annie, Rebecca, Philomena (you might want to skip that last one...)

Well I'm biased, but Noah and Jessie sounds timeless.

cheekster · 08/01/2010 00:26

Hmm, Jessie - could grow on me

Jessie

How would you pronounce Eris? Just as it looks E-RIS????

OP posts:
Nevergoogle · 08/01/2010 00:24

Eris? - goddess of chaos, always thought it would suit a DD of mine.
Eartha? don't why that came to mind just putting it to you.

treedelivery · 08/01/2010 00:21

Jessie.

It seems very very old. Half of dh's ancestors seem to have been Jessie. Whereas mine were all Maisie [Mary] and Tessie [Theresa]
