I know that we will go with the names that WE like rather than general consenus but I thought I'd run our possible name choices past you all to see what comes up...

So, the surname is two-syllables beginning with T.

If it's a boy: Lewis or Rudy
If it's a girl: Alice or Florence

Let me know what you think!

Congratulations

Just to update you on this - and to proudly announce that we had a son! Born on Saturday and in the end went for Lewis!

Thanks for all your opinions - it did help me to take my mind off being overdue!

I like Florence and Lewis. Great names.

Not keen on Rudy and Alice is okay, but the name always makes me think of someone who is not quite all there, perhaps a bit slow. I know its just a stereotype, but the Alices on TV haven't always been that great - think Alice from the vicar of Dibley, and the one on casualty sometimes seems a bit odd. That's what comes to my mind when I think of the name!

Beasknees · 06/01/2010 09:57

rudi and Alie

OrangeAnge · 06/01/2010 09:56

Thank you all for your opinions. They're very interesting (and encouraging!) but we are still no closer to making a decision! It seems mumsnet opinion is fairly equally spread.

Do people really wait and see whether the baby looks more like one name than the other? Don't all babies sort of look similar when they are born?!! (Excuse my ignorance on this!)

Rudy and Florence.

MrsMattie · 05/01/2010 17:03

Rudy is a great name.

Alice is pretty.

I like Florence, but it seems quite a 'fashion' name round these parts (London).

Reakly dislike Lewis, sorry. Louis (Loo-ee) nicer.

Ondine · 05/01/2010 16:49

I prefer Lewis and Florence.

Rudy sounds like a nickname and 'Nudey Rudy' & 'Rudeboy' etc would put me off.

Mistletoesnowman · 05/01/2010 16:34

I like Rudy and Florence best.

sweetkitty · 05/01/2010 16:11

Lewis is lovely but v common up here in Scotland

Rudy don't like sorry

Alice and Florence - OK but don't float my boat if I were to chose then Florence nn Flossie

angelene · 05/01/2010 16:03

I LOVE Florence. Really not keen on Alice - sounds rather sloaney to me (sorry to all the parents of Alices out there).

Lewis is great - quite popular here but I am in Wales!

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 15:55

we were going to use Reuben with nn Rudy if that helps?

Hulababy · 05/01/2010 15:54

I love the name Florence.

Less keen on the boy;s names, but think Lewis is better than Rudy.

gladders · 05/01/2010 15:54

like the girls names but not the boys ones -Rudy will just get LOADS of teasing - and lewis just not my cup of tea.

Bessie123 · 05/01/2010 15:53

I only like Florence out of the 4 in the op

pointydig · 05/01/2010 15:51

Lewis and Alice

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 15:48

Rudy or Alice for me

OrangeAnge · 05/01/2010 13:32

It's funny but I have been thinking about songs when choosing names! Maybe it's because I was named after a song myself.

A Message to You Rudy is a great song, but Alice (Who the is Alice) puts me off somewhat!)

Love your girls' names, you're on to a winner whatever you choose

Neither boys' names rock my boat, but on balance Lewis is nicer.

havoc · 05/01/2010 13:29

Specials not special!

JaneiteIsTrite · 05/01/2010 13:28

I like Alice, Florence and Lewis but not Rudy. I have an Alice but Florence may be even nicer!

havoc · 05/01/2010 13:28

I wanted to call DS Rudy after the Special song too! or Gene after Dexys 'Geno'

MrsJohnDeere · 05/01/2010 13:27

Like both girls names. Prefer Alice.

Boys names not my cup of tea.

happywheezer · 05/01/2010 13:14

I really like rudy, not keen on Lewis, too many naughty boys in my class with that name.
As for the girls names both are lovely!
Rudy is rather a cool name.
I had a teacher in art college who called her son Rudy after the specials song, for the line, "stop your messing around" sounds like a boy perfectly!
