I'd be interested to hear your predictions for popular baby names of 2010.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MamaLazarou · 10/01/2010 16:40

Get out of town! DKNY? How would you even pronounce that?

OP posts:
lindy100 · 10/01/2010 16:38

Lilac - I know someone who had a kid in their class called Dkny. No joke.

lindy100 · 10/01/2010 16:37

I know two Florences and three Isaacs - two Sophias as well.

We have an Eve - had this name picked out for ages. What I hate is that people call her Evie, as it is so popular. It's not her name!

flimflammum · 10/01/2010 16:33

Just checked the 2009 top 100 and my daughter's name is not in it at all - hooray! [sorry I know that's of no interest to anyone but me, emoticon]

lilac21 · 10/01/2010 16:15

I'm an infant teacher and have come across almost every name mentioned over the last ten years. My friend's stepdaughter called her recent arrival Neveah - it's Heaven spelt backwards

RollBaubleUnderTree · 10/01/2010 15:50

All three of my DC's names have been mentioned....agghhh!

I got there first though so I am obviously a trendsetter for the first time in my life!

givecarrotsachance · 10/01/2010 15:26

OOoooh Peter - My 5 yr old is Peter and I love it as there are almost no other boys called Peter. Plenty of 50+ men ;-) I've only ever heard of one other boy called Peter and it was in a toy shop some years ago - a lady said, "Peter" and I thought she was talking to my baby but it was her young son.

I like it as it's a "normal" name (I'm not into flouncy names) but fairly unusual.

So noone else choose it, please

If you do, get used to "Pete" as although I never shorten it, many people do which is annoying, but just the way it goes.

I'm due another in July and am deperately looking for something similarly unusual but normal-sounding.

asdx2 · 10/01/2010 15:26

I think Flossie, Dottie and Lottie may gain popularity.
For boys maybe Edward,Edmund,and Edwin.

MamaLazarou · 10/01/2010 15:25

Sorry, pinchme: Isla has been mentioned a few times.

"I think Isla will continue to soar, then drop out of favour in a few years - there have been no less than 15 in the last 4 months or so at work."

OP posts:
pinchmeimustbedreaming · 10/01/2010 15:19

ooooo i havnt seen any isla's mentioned maybe im onto a good 1 if my next is a girl.

Mumfun · 10/01/2010 14:00

Mohammed would be near top if it wasnt spelt so many ways.

Also can see a return to Davids, Peters, Matthews,. Maybe even Brian?

emsie4134 · 10/01/2010 13:58

I chose Maggie for our 3rd daughter as I agree that the "old lady chic" names are on the rise. Two other mums i know have chosen Martha, and Nancy. And Rose for middle names have been very popular, i know 5 people including myself thats has chosen it.

fernie3 · 10/01/2010 13:57

My husband wants Peter if this baby is a boy, or Robert. Peter is ok Robert I have already said no. I think the most popular names this year will include Isabelle and two pregnant people I know want to use Theo so perhaps that is an up and coming name.

alexpolismum · 10/01/2010 13:53

hocuspontas - I was thinking the same thing when I saw Rhys/ Reece

hocuspontas · 10/01/2010 13:48

The top 100 go by birth registration do they?

I noticed Lexi and Lexie and Lily and Lilly. Some names will be more common than appear on here.

E.g. Eleanor and Isobel are names that have a lot of variant spelling but sound the same (ish)

winomum · 10/01/2010 13:44

I've heard of tons of Lexi's & Mathilda/Tilly's, also flower names (favourite recently being Blossom). Eva/Ava/Aoife is unbelievably popular (2 in our tiny road)and we know three people who have called their baby girl Stevie.
Boys names Archie/Alfie/Charlie/Teddy.
I'd hazard David/Matt for this year from the doctor who effect.

alexpolismum · 10/01/2010 13:32

Phew! No one has yet mentioned my ds's name! (aged 2 weeks) or even my other children's names.

I agree about the Biblical names, with perhaps some classic names making a comeback.

BellaBear · 10/01/2010 13:20

my prediction: the names from twilight will all rise up through the ranks: emmett, jasper, rosalie, edward, alice, esme, jacob. Possibly not carlisle, and bella's already up there

pointydig · 10/01/2010 13:20

Angel

boodleboot · 10/01/2010 13:18

i reckon there will be lots of edwards and isabellas....maybe rosalie and jacobs too.....twilight effect....

blametheparents · 10/01/2010 13:15

Florence

ceb80 · 10/01/2010 13:11

We have a Xander - hope it doesn't become too common popular

Crumpets · 10/01/2010 13:08

Nearly all the baby boys I know are called Henry or Harry. (well, almost).

Heated · 10/01/2010 12:24

Agree with LuciaRose about a return to plainer girls' names amongst those favouring old lady chic (Jane, Catherine, Sarah, Mary, Louisa) and also a trend for more European versions of names (like Luca/Tomas) which has been popular for the last couple of years.
