Wolfgang for a boy or Ursula for a girl... any thoughts? My partner likes them, my sister likes them, my Dad hates them... what do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If you and your partner like them i would say go for it

LetThereBeRock · 17/12/2009 19:21

I hate Ursula but love Wolfgang.

Buddleja · 17/12/2009 19:14

Initially I thought 'Ah no' then I thought maybe I'm thinking 'Ah no' only because they aren't popular/common names.

They are names I'd raise an eyebrow at once (due to the rarity of their use) and then get used to

mmelindt · 17/12/2009 18:08

Both names are very typical names for 40something Germans so my view of them is a bit tinged by that. I know a few Wolfgangs, and DH's cousin is called Ursula. Other cousin is called Ines, if you like Germanic names.

Doesnt matter what your Dad thinks, if you like the name then go for it.

MrsMattie · 17/12/2009 18:03

Wolfgang is awful. I like Ursula, though.

birdofthenorth · 17/12/2009 18:02

I quite like Wolfgang though there may be playground wolf howling to contend with!!

Ursula sounds harsh and witchy to me and reminds me of Phoebe's dizzy bitchy sister in Friends! Sorry x

MamaLazarou · 17/12/2009 17:31

They are both brilliant names. I love them both most heartily. Your dad will get used to them.

NativityApple · 17/12/2009 17:28

I have used one of these, much to the disgust of my IL's. Which made me like it even more.

belgo · 17/12/2009 17:23

Go for it.

PoppyIsApain · 17/12/2009 17:22

I dislike them both tbh, but you should go with what you like not other people.

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 17/12/2009 17:20

I'm with your Dad. Both very harsh sounding names IMHO.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/12/2009 17:18

I'm not at all keen on Wolfgang but Ursula is a good name - underused imo.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 17/12/2009 17:13

I quite like them! they sound like brother and sister. It sounds like names chosen by somebody sane and competent, but a lot more adventurous than the average person.

my mum talked me out of using phoebe for my dc1. still feel a bit pisssed off about that 7 years on.

EldonAve · 17/12/2009 16:57

Love them both
