Wolfgang and Ursula

Wolfgang for a boy or Ursula for a girl... any thoughts? My partner likes them, my sister likes them, my Dad hates them... what do you think?

they sound like great names to me missismac i particularly like Kesta. My Mum has suggested Wolfe rather than Wolfgang but I'm not too sure. I find it interesting how the realm of what's acceptable is so different from person to person - for example a friend of mine has just named her baby boy Mulberry which, for me, is a bit too far out. Then again I'm sure many people of my grand parents' generation would find Amelie too weird and that's pretty popular these days.

Yes, you're entitled to your opinion etc.etc.

I think a lot depends where you/ your children live. There's lot's of unusual names round us & Ursula or Wolfie wouldn't stand out at all. On a personal note my DC's all love their names (so far - your post prompted me to check this morning! They haven't had a minute of teasing (yet, or to my knowledge) & I don't think they'd consider themselves to be "poor" because of their names. Rather the opposite. But I do accept that in different area's people's views of what's acceptable can be narrower. Fair enough.

Oo apologies.. Is this not where opinions on names is expressed? I just think it is really mean to call your children Wolfgang or Ursula. Doesn't mean I'm right... Sorry

Thanks Herbal Holly we've got 4 DC's, They do have 'interesting' names I'm afraid, but before I'm jumped on from a great height I'll add that they have very straightforward middle names that they can always switch to as & when they want!

Their names are Kesta (DD), Tully (DS1), Caden (Always known as Kays-DS2) & of course, Wolfie.

Have prob given my RL identity away to some now!

Missismac - that's good to know that your son likes his name, I think i'd be happy with it too if I were a boy. Do you have any other children? Do they have similar names?

We've got a Wolfgang, now 6. He's really a Wofie - never use full version. He loves his name, we love his name. My Mum hated it & called him Max (not any of his given names, just one she liked) for the first 9 months of his life until she grudgingly got used to it (we don't see her often so it didn't matter).

My Wolfie's not arrogant at all. Just a normal mischievous 6yr old boy. And down here it is definitely seen as quite a cool name to have. Not why we chose it - he just looked like a 'Wolfie' to me when he was born.

Thanks everyone. We're settled on one or the other depending on whether or not the baby is a boy or a girl (or a bear or wolf). Thanks for all your input.
Pinkpip100 have you ever seen/read the children's book where the main character is called Ursula and she wants to become a bear so eats specially made jam sandwiches and changes into one for the day? It was a favourite of mine when I was little and I so wished I was called Ursula when I read it... So Ursula doesn't make me think of seawitches, it makes me think of magic bears...

well I think Ursula is very good choice ... (nothing to so with the fact its my name, honest ). And I'm not German or Polish, or in the 40-60 age bracket.

I think I prefer Wolfram to Wolfgang.

(I'm off to worry that when people hear my name all they think of is that horrid witch from the little mermaid!)

Adore/love Ursula - was in my top 5 list, just didn't go with our last name.

I must admit, I immediately thought of a German man and Polish lady I know when I read them, but with a bit of thought I think they're really nice.

Like them both. I know a younger German named Wolfgang (30s) and a 9 y.o. Ursula (her brother is Christian), plus another Ursula who is probably late 20s, a teacher of one of the DCs. They're both stylish names -- I don't think there's anything tth about them.
