Eve

For years we've had the name Eve as our girl's name. It's still our plan to go for this name if this baby is a girl, but I'm having slight wobbles (clearly nothing better to worry about today!).

I still love the name as much as ever but just worry that it's too popular. In fact though, I actually looked earlier and in the top 100 baby names list it's 80 something - whereas Evie (which I would have thought was more of a nickname) is top 10.

I probably (she says!) wouldn't myself call the baby Evie though I guess that everyone else probably will. I just see it as more of a nickname, which is why I was suprised to see that it was so much higher up the top 100 list than Eve itself.

Anyway - I think I've had this name as fixed in my mind for so long that now that it's actually becoming a possibility that I'll be using it - I'm over-analysing. Is it still a good 'un?

Congrats londonlottie. Sounds like we have exactly the same views re the name. I think I'm just going to tell myself though that it wouldn't feel right if I went for another name now. When I toy with the idea of another name, I keep getting drawn back to Eve, so I guess that that is that!

My last post was in response to MrsMattie - I hadn't seen your post mrsvwoolf. I hear you - and I know what you mean. I wish it hadn't become so popular!

Exactly - I do realise that I won't be the one deciding a nickname ultimately, but from my point of view it would certainly be Eve.

Not sure why I've got such a bee in my bonnet about this - DS is called Harry which is even more popular than Evie!! (top 4 I think).

Current boy's name fave is Gabriel, but that's a whole other story (and whole other thread in fact!) of worry - as to whether he would get teased by being called "GAYbriel".

Eve is lovely. I really don't much like Evie, but it's inevitable she will get called it sometimes. I do know a girl of about 12 who is always Eve though.

wicks · 09/12/2009 16:13

I am over-analysing it - and if I'm honest, I would probably regret not using it as it's the name we chose 6 years ago and I can't imagine picking another. It's just a shame that Evie is so bloody popular! Grrrr.

It's absolutely lovely. I adore the name Evangeline.

Bucharest · 09/12/2009 10:40

It's lovely, and much much classier than Eva/Ava and the Evie.

loobylu3 · 09/12/2009 10:38

It's a beautiful classic. It does seem popular because Evie/ Eva and even Evelyn are being used a lot.
If you love it, use it.

Ondine · 09/12/2009 10:32

I think you're probably over-analysing if you absolutely love the name then I wouldn't let popularity put you off.

But no doubt that the Eve type names are a trend right now, like you say Evie at #10, Eva at #41, Eve at #84 and Evelyn at #89.

MamaLazarou · 09/12/2009 07:54

It is very, very popular at the moment, but if you love it that much, don't let it bother you!

It's much nicer than Evie IMO, which I agree, does sound like a nickname.
