I think this is really cute. Would be short for Augustus. DP is not so convinced.

OK, so it this nice or not. Or is Augustus a bit poncey?

I love Rufus too but again DP says no.

Gilbert is lovely, reminds me of Anne of Green Gables

Rudyard is pretty cool - would be brave though

Love Dominic too - Dom is v cute NN

I know what you mean about Angus! I have a Benedict and a Rex already, I think it would seem odd compared.

I know what you mean about Angus. I do like it but I just imagine a red faced farmer type (no idea why ?!)

Others on our list are

Rufus
Laurence
Dominic
Rudyard/Rudolph (love Rudi as nn but not sure about full names)
Gilbert (again, love Gil as a nn but not convinced about full name)

Atticus is fantastic though.

Meglet · 08/12/2009 16:36

I like Gus and Fergus.

Poledra · 08/12/2009 16:34

I know an Atticus....... much better than Augustus IMHO. Though I prefer Fergus to either of them.

RnB · 08/12/2009 16:32

Looks like we have similar taste tilly

I like Angus but wouldn't use it. Is sooo different to the names of ds1&2 would look odd, I think.

I wouldn't want just Gus, lovely as it is.

I know 2 (aged 4 and 6, I think) - both really suit the name. With one it is his full name, the other a NN for Angus.

Rafi · 08/12/2009 16:28

Angus & Fergus are both good - Augustus reminds me of Gussie Fink-Nottle & his newts.

lumpasmelly · 08/12/2009 16:25

Angus or Fergus are better long versions than Augustus as it makes me think of Augustus Gloop (heaven forbid he ended up on the heavy side!!!)...but you could just go with Gus....(like they do in Sweden)

TheCrackFox · 08/12/2009 16:22

How about Angus?

Tillyscoutsmum · 08/12/2009 16:21

We love Gus and have really struggled to find a "full" name which we like where we can have the nn Gus. I think we'd probably end up going for Fergus because we also like the nn Ferg and the full name.

We also love Atticus but can't really go for it because dd's mn is Scout and we'll look like we've only ever read one book

RnB · 08/12/2009 16:18

Hmm, I think I have a penchant for poncetastic names. Apparently ds1's name is considered poncetastic on here.

DP wants Atticus - which I like but seems a bit too unusual

OP posts:
birdofthenorth · 08/12/2009 16:15

Love Gus. Do not love Augustus, which does sound poncetastic to me, sorry!

I know a Gus short for Gustav, though, which is even worse, though to be fair he's not British!

Why not just Gus? Unless you have a really short surname I think that's be nice.

rubyslippers · 08/12/2009 16:15

Augustus is tres poncey but if you like it, then use it

I like Gus as a NN - quite manly
