36 weeks - NO boys names, DH likes NONE!

I am just coming up to 36 weeks and really stuggling with boys names.

The problem is not me but the DH, i like many names but so far DH has not liked ANY!

How did any of you cope with picking a name in such difficult circumstances?!

Top of my list is Ezra - which DH did like and is now saying he doesn't.

I also like;

Nathaniel
Solomon
Isaac
and Gabriel

HELP, any advice gratefully recieved!

We had the exact same problem before DS2 was born last year. We had chosen 3 or 4 girls names but not a single boys name!

I wrote a list of names and DH crossed most of them out. Some he left with a question mark, meaning he wasn't keen but also wasn't violently opposed to them either. There wasn't ONE that we agreed on!

When he was born, I just took one look at him and decided he looked like a xxx, one of the names I really liked, even though DH had crossed that one out. I just kept calling him that eg 'DH would you hold xxx while I get the stitches done' and 'Please could you pass xxx's nappy over' etc. When he then asked me, about half an hour later, what we were going to call him, I just said 'Well we have already named him xxx haven't we'. DH looked at him and said that he did actually feel like a xxx now I had been calling him it!! So the name stayed.

My thinking is, when he pushes a baby out, he can name it. Until then, especially if he can't decide, it's up to you.

Ezra is great - infact i like all your list

( not mad on Toby though!)

lolianja · 03/12/2009 20:11

That must be incredibly frustrating, sunshine.

Just a thought - if he really can't think of any name that he likes in an of itself, how about getting him to jot down names with positive associations, eg old friends, favourite actors/sportsmen etc. Anybody that you could give the baby the same name as without embarrassment or resentment occuring (as with the black sheep relative).

Surely from your bloke's point of view, a name you're not in love with but that has nice/familiar associations is better than a name you're not in love with that means absolutely nothing.

I'm probably grasping at straws on your behalf but it may be worth a try!

FWIW - I'm nearly 37 weeks gone with twins and I've only settled (and I do tend to change my mind even on this) on a boy/girl combination. I think they are boy/girl but if they're not I can see one twin being nameless for a while after the birth.

I had loads of stick over it from family but now I think on it I got loads of stick for any names I suggested either I have bad taste or a bad family

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 16:49

Mathias is lovely Slushy, see, i am pretty easy to please!

I am probably going to get Flamed for suggesting this but if I had had a second boy (thankfully you may say when you hear the name)
I wanted to call him Mathias I liked it because it is a Greek variant of Matthew which is a biblical name but also because it is unusual but the abbreviations are common e.g matt or math.
Other than that nothing to suggest sorry other than put the names you like in a hat and tell dh that he pulls one out and that is the name.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 15:06

Pixie - it is Toby - but to be honest i don't like it!!

pixiestix · 03/12/2009 13:16

Whats the one family name that your DH liked initially? Then the Mumsnet ladies can have a think and see if we can come up with anything similar!

diddl · 03/12/2009 12:30

Try not to despair.

I was tidying the bookshelf & the name of an author just leaped out at me-and that was the name we both liked.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:27

Ah Diddl - it is family politics, let us just say this person is a black sheep and leave it there!

I would be happy if we could just agree on ONE boys name!

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 03/12/2009 12:26

What is his objection to the names you like ?? I like them but they are all quite biblical. Is that the issue ? What's the name he likes that you can't have ? Is there anything similar that you like as well.

I really do believe name choosing should be a joint decision but if there are really none he likes (or at least one he doesn't actively dislike), then there's really not much choice is there ?

diddl · 03/12/2009 12:25

In the end, we only ever agreed on one boys name & one girls name.

Good job I ended up with one of each!

What is wrong with using the relatives name?

Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:23

Love it different. If your DH is looking for an unusual name he might just love it too.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:21

I like it different!

Well i posted on here the few i like best but i have a pretty long list of names i could live with and Elijah is definitely on that.

OP posts:
differentID · 03/12/2009 12:19

then tell him you will call the baby No-Name-because-my-father-couldn't-choose. In the 16th cnetury Puritan tradition.

Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:18

Sorry, bit of x-posting there.

Elijah and Eli were on my list too last time. DH said no because he doesn't like biblical names.

Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:16

Is your list still the same?

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:15

Elijah is also on my list

I am relly not exagerating when i say he doesn't like any - he has been through a baby book and not come up with anything!!

OP posts:
differentID · 03/12/2009 12:12

What about Eli/ Elias/ Elijah?

bogie · 03/12/2009 12:06

Justin (ds' name)
Dexter ( I love this 1)
Lewis

Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:05

Have almost the same story as Hatlee. DH refused to look at Baby Name Books. Barely came up with a suggestion for a girl's name throughout the pregnancy. Said no to all the ones I loved then I ended up agreeing to his suggestion whilst still on gas & air in the 3rd stage of labour!

Agree with everyone else, get him to make a list and sit down and discuss it properly.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:03

The only suggestion he has had is the name of a relative of his and his family would not be happy about this so he agrees that is out.

Other than that he has said no to EVERYTHING!!

I really dont want to push him into a name he hates - he says he hates all of the ones i like by the way, but the baby haas to be named!

I am praying for a girl!!

Totallyfloaty35 · 03/12/2009 12:00

Oh dear, name the baby yourself.DH only liked 4 names but we only agreed on 2,one of them was Gabriel.Dont pick something he really hates, but if he has no real feeling one way or the other and you love it,then go with it.
