The name "Zoë" - Do you like it? And do you think it sounds posh, chav, or somewhere in between? How do you think it fits with the current crop of kids names.

Would love to hear your honest opinion.

I like it, seriously considered it for dd

skip the diaresis though, will only make it hard on forms and anyone with half a brain knows it isn;t pronounced to rhyme with 'toe' any more than Christopher isn't pronounced Ch-ris-top-her

titchy · 01/12/2009 13:45

The dots are called diareses btw and need to be used imo otherwise it would look as if it shoudl rhyme with doe, hoe, or foe.

Be prepared for Americans to add a 'y' at the end

Love it - was second option for 3 day old DD, but she's definitely a Keira now she's here

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 01/12/2009 13:39

I love Zoe. And there aren't that many little Zoe's that I've met round our way. I think it sounds "somewhere in between".

I would put the umlouts/dots (sp) over the "e" in but don't know how.

It is very seventies - there were 9 in my sister's year at school including her.

I have always liked it, although there may be an element of sibling rivalry there.

It is pretty classless to my ears, although that coudl be because I grew up with so many, from all walks of life.

Although it is ancient greek names, I am not sure that it it "fits" with the sound of the biblical (Samuel, Adam, James....), Celtic (Niamh, Isla, Rory ...) or Surname (Bradley, Connor, Spencer... ) names that are in vogue aroudn here, but then THAT DOESNT MATTER!

I think Zoe is a lovely girls name.
