My son goes to school with an Aneurin. It seems to be universally mispelt and mispronounced.

I really like Aneurin and its diminutive Nye. My friend has one in London and not really had a problem. There are so many unusual or non-english names around.

I also love Ieuan

Patsy99 · 01/12/2009 15:35

I think it depends a bit on where you live. We live in London and called our little boy "Aneurin" (I'm Welsh). You would not believe how difficult people seemed to find it to say. I knew spelling might be a challenge, but not the pronunciation. Evenutally when he was 6 months old we switched to using his middle name "Ellis". That's ok but I wouldn't say it's necessarily identifiably Welsh, or at least not in London.

I like Gwyn, Ifan and Ioan.

runningmonkey · 01/12/2009 14:49

Hywel or more anglicised version Howell which could be shortened to Howie
Gwyn
Ieuan
Gwylim

Were all on my list but most vetoed by DH. Luckily we had a DD!

Love love love Evan, but it is v popular round our way (E England )

ohnelly · 01/12/2009 14:45

I do like Huw too, Ill have to see what DP thinks

Haha, came on here to recommend the name Osian, but you are way ahead of me! Beautiful name.

doubleexpresso · 30/11/2009 18:53

Is Ivor Welsh ? I think that's a great name.

Wattinger · 30/11/2009 18:46

We have an Evan, couln't go any more crazy as we live in England and needed people to be able to spell and pronounce his name.
We also liked Cadel, Owain, Iago, Dylan and Ren.

frakkinaround · 30/11/2009 18:01

Aneirin/Aneurin is my favourite Welsh name.

llareggub · 30/11/2009 17:51

I have used Iestyn and Taliesin as middle names for DS1 and 2. I wasn't brave enough to use them as first names in England but regret it now.

MamaLazarou · 30/11/2009 17:48

I know a lovely, sweet, big, hunky Gethin. He is so lovely!

kateyfer · 30/11/2009 13:47

how about:

Ioan
Llyr
Rhys
Rhydian
Steffan
Dafydd
Tomos
Owen
Owain
Cellan
Eirian
Geraint
G erallt
Arwel
Huw

would love a Welsh name for my baby (EDD 30 Jan), but as I live in England at the moment, don't want to straddle it with an unpronouncable name!

SoupDragon · 30/11/2009 12:48

I love Idris but could ever have got away with it.

Lionstar · 30/11/2009 12:43

Bryn (DS middle name)
Evan? or maybe the more welsh version Ifan

I love Osian, but was a step too far for DP

Others I quite like:
Dyfrig
Caredig
Aled
Elwyn
Gareth
Ianto

dottyaboutstripes · 30/11/2009 12:39

Taliesin. I'd have used this but DH was having none of it....

Skegness · 30/11/2009 11:27

Ifan is nice.

shootfromthehip · 30/11/2009 11:22

Idris is my fav Welsh boys name.

Good luck with everything

ohnelly · 30/11/2009 11:22

I love Ellis but my friends little boy has that name. I know what you mean - I want something quite short(ish). Will look on google too thanks. I also like Ifan?
