Bunty

Have popped across from another board and name changed (as I think this may be an unusual one) to ask for the verdict on Bunty.

I want to use this as a full stand alone name, not short for anything.
I knew a genteel elderly lady named Bunty when I was a girl, so this has been a positive influence.

Only if you are extremely wealthy and she will never ever have to work for a living.

scottishmummy · 30/11/2009 18:33

also sounds too close to cunty

Cortina · 30/11/2009 10:45

Short form of Vivienne in my family it seems. Not sure if that's true more generally?

As a short form of Vivienne I think it's interesting, on it's own, not for me.

MamaLazarou · 30/11/2009 08:56

You are right, mollybob - her name was Bunty Bailey, and I hated her for getting to snog hunky Morten!

Buntytea · 30/11/2009 08:46
Grin
Vivia · 30/11/2009 08:44

Ooh, I left out the important bit! Bunty James/Gunn's real name is Aileen. Bunty is a nn. Definitely only use it as a nn!

sunnydelight · 30/11/2009 08:43

I rarely feel strongly enough to post on the names board as each to their own and all that, but please don't do that to a child - nickname at a push but not as a proper name.

mollybob · 29/11/2009 23:11

Wasn't Bunty the name of the girl in the a-ha Take on Me video who was shagging in a relationship with Morten Harket

Knowing that ages me, doesn't it?

ja9 · 29/11/2009 22:59

love it!!! lovely wee lady in church called bunty. great name!

doubleexpresso · 29/11/2009 22:58

It would be cruel. As a nn it's sweet for a cuddly rabbit. For a child, no.

Vivia · 29/11/2009 22:47

Bunty James is now Bunty Gunn: she married the clan chieftain and they are still in Caithness. She is fabulous

mathanxiety · 29/11/2009 22:46

Neighbour's little yappy dog from long ago.

CuppaTeaJanice · 29/11/2009 22:09

That's it Hocuspontas! How? - not Magpie!

She must have married a Mr Gunn. They live in the far north of Scotland (or they did 10 years ago)

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 29/11/2009 22:07

We used to call DD "Bunty" for a nickname when she was younger. I think she would hate it now.

hocuspontas · 29/11/2009 22:06

There was Bunty James on the How? programme with Fred Dineage.

Too hard sounding for me. And would imagine comparisions with the C word

pottycock · 29/11/2009 22:05

Don't normally get involved in these threads, but please DON'T DO IT!! Think about your dd for pete's sake.

brockleybelle · 29/11/2009 22:05

ridiculous name. also sounds like someone with horsey teeth and who wears lots of tweed and wellies and is part of prince charles' 'set'.

CuppaTeaJanice · 29/11/2009 22:02

Bunty Gunn.

From Magpie?

I met her once...

GrumpyYoungFogey · 29/11/2009 21:46

Association in my mind with Sarah "Bunty" Kennedy.

Could be a good or bad thing...

scottishmummy · 29/11/2009 20:37

makes me think satc trey macdougal mum,a wizened lemon sucker

choosyfloosy · 29/11/2009 20:28

Well, clearly it's coming back then. I just don't get this one. For me, the names of fondly remembered people are a fantastic thing to use as a middle name. I'm afraid I think, and have always thought, that this is an ugly word. But if you love it without reservation, use it of course.
