Sorry I think it is a bit pretentious - prue is ok just about. It sounds like a throw back to the prudish victorian era (is it a victorian name?)!

MamaLazarou · 29/11/2009 09:18

Makes me think of Kath & Kim's gift store characters saying 'Pruuuuee' in their awful accents.

juneybabe · 29/11/2009 01:59

Don't like the 'Prude' part. Too much scope for teasing.

pinkteddy · 27/11/2009 21:00

A friend's sister was called Verity when I was at school but everyone called her Ves.

doubleexpresso · 27/11/2009 20:55

It's one of those names that's great in theory, but when someone actually calls their DD Prudence people wince in horror, because it is an awful name to saddle a child with

posieparker · 27/11/2009 20:08

I love the name and Purdy.

Pingpong · 27/11/2009 20:05

Not very keen. Can't imagine a baby Prudence but then again they aren't babies for long. Agree that it makes me think of prude or rude not sure what nn you could come up with except Prue which is not great either IMO.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/11/2009 20:03

I like it (though prefer and may well use Verity if dc3 is a girl).

LetThereBeRock · 27/11/2009 20:01

I really do think it's awful I'm afraid.

LetThereBeRock · 27/11/2009 20:00

I think it'd be an improvement on Prudence.

HerHonesty · 27/11/2009 18:56

hideous? thats an awful name. surely not.

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 27/11/2009 12:47

Hideous.

bellissima · 27/11/2009 09:10

Don't like. Makes me think either of 'prude' or 'prune', neither attractive connotations.

hf128219 · 26/11/2009 21:26

I like it. I also like Pleasant.

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/11/2009 21:24

It's a bit 'woman in a headscarf with big hips making jam'. Like Audrey, Penelope etc.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/11/2009 21:15

I like it. And all the other virtuous names.

ihaveaheadache · 26/11/2009 21:09

There was a lip gloss by Pout called "Prudish Prudence" so that's all I can think of. Sorry.

this one

JaneiteMightBite · 26/11/2009 20:49

Verity is gorgeous - even nicer than Prudence.

Ivykaty44 · 26/11/2009 20:48

Ideal in this financal climate

Sesi · 26/11/2009 20:48

It's a very unattractive name - I would go as far to say awful actually.

Verity, Amity & Honour are much nicer virtue names.

HerHonesty · 26/11/2009 20:48

love verity too. i think its a virtue name thing for me..

RhinestoneCowgirl · 26/11/2009 20:24

thanks KERALA, DH didn't like it initially as 'you can't shorten it easily', but I talked him round in a postnatal haze...

KERALA1 · 26/11/2009 20:22

oooh now I really like Verity

halfcut · 26/11/2009 20:18

awful

RhinestoneCowgirl · 26/11/2009 20:18

I think it's quite nice, but I have a little Verity at home, and also quite liked Constance... so into the 'virtue' names
