I have to agree. It's more masculine.

BendyBob · 29/12/2009 11:59

Prefer R2D2.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 29/12/2009 11:53

oh I get it now. finally. it's for a boy.. hmmmmm.

I think it sounds like Heineken. I'm not a star wars fan at all. I prefer Yoda for a boy though. anakin sounds like a dutch girls name.

tispity · 28/12/2009 21:13

i knew one - he went by the name Ano though and was not bullied; though he had a pretty unconvential upbringing so never had to deal with 'you know what types'

MaggieMnaSneachta · 28/12/2009 20:30

annakin??? what is sw?

I prefer Annika. Or Anouk.

vulpes · 28/12/2009 13:12

Asoka / Ashoka is a real name. it is sri lankan.

purpleduckUnderTheMistletoe · 28/12/2009 12:59

no

nappyaddict · 28/12/2009 12:47

Love it and Anika.

FairyLightsForever · 22/12/2009 23:43

Ha ha ha!
Sorry, it is a nice name, but please don't be surprised if your child changes it to John or something equally 'normal' as soon as he is able. By 18 he will be absolutely sickof all the Star Wars comments.

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 22/12/2009 23:11

may the force be with him...

thatll be a no from me. sorry

ToffeeCrumble · 22/12/2009 23:07

I also think it sounds too much like Anarchy

katnkittens · 22/12/2009 20:30

Good God no...

My DS is R2D2 which is a lot more tame, he gets 'Artie' for short.

Avendesora · 22/12/2009 18:01

He could be Annie, or Obi for life!

How about Oberon instead, shortened to Obi.

HerbalHolly · 22/12/2009 11:49

I wouldn't pick it myself but if you have a surname that will take it then I think it could be pretty cool. If you ignore the star wars connection and just think of it as an isolated word it sounds good; if you include the star wars connection it's pretty cool. I reckon there are porbably more people out there who like/love star wars than those who don't like it.
If you like it because you like it then why the hell not. If you like it because you think it's funny then that's only marginally less mean than Mr and Mrs Hairs calling their son Dicken because they thought it was funny. True story.

HEIFERmerrychristmas · 21/12/2009 18:21

Its a lovely name but unfortunately one that would be so unfair on the child.

There are lots of other lovely names to pick, go for one of those.

Life for children can be hard enough without having a massive great target on their backs.

Littlefish · 21/12/2009 17:37

I used to know one. He would be about 7 now.

Please don't do it.

cathcat · 21/12/2009 17:31

Just today DS said to me that he wanted to change his name to Luke, with middle name Skywalker .
OP it is no from me, sorry.

pagwatch · 21/12/2009 17:25

I think it would also be a comfort for you to know that the force would indeed be with him.

MillyMollyMoo · 21/12/2009 17:22

I know a couple who met in a Xfiles chat room who went on to have a cub baby called Fox.

I like Anakin btw.

DiamondHead · 21/12/2009 15:42

Someone posted the 2008 names the other day. They were 7 babies names Anakin in 2008.
Also on www.yournotme.com, there are 2 Anakin's on the electoral register. They can't blame Star Wars. Bet they loved the day that came out. Maybe there is some other Anakin etymology. You can give whithering looks to anyone who dares to suggest the name came from Star Wars.

I think Bill BAiley's son has a Star Trek name - Dax or something,

CommonNortherner · 21/12/2009 15:32

Would've been okay before the last three films! Bloody Lucas!

hmm, wouldn't do it meself, but each to their own.
Just been perusing the boys names list....not one completely "yooneek" name there, even the least common have two other namesakes. Is there a similar girls' names spreadsheet?

Sorry to hijack the thread...as you were....

GreensElves · 21/12/2009 14:53

I know of an Anakin

it's a rather brave choice, I think

but it's a nice name

sweetkitty · 21/12/2009 14:49

A huge NO, would probably be able to get away with it for a dog though.

Do you want your child to grow up hating you?
