I have a dd called Eloise. One more on the way. Like Elizabeth-is it too similar to Eloise?

I'd shorten Elizabeth to Betty. Or Betsy. Awww. Baby Betsy... Awww.

Elisabeth is my DD's second name, and I think it is definitely one of the very prettiest timeless names.

However, I don't think it is wise to give siblings the same initial, less still names that are dramatically similar. So I wouldn't call an Eloise's little sister Elizabeth.

And Eloise is much more now and of the moment than Elisabeth. You probably ought to choose a more contemporary name in the interests of fairness. Flora or Clementine would be much better!

Agree with Grumpyyoungfogey though, you just aren't trying hard enough. Have you thought of Clementine? It much more MN.

And won't your DD feel left out when she starts school and every other girl is named Evie, or is that just where we live?

My middle name is Elizabeth and when DD is born, it will be her middle name too.

I am an Elizabeth, and I like my name. Unfortunately it automatically gets shortened to Liz which makes my teeth itch! As a child and teen, I would introduce myself as Elizabeth and people would say, 'Is Liz ok?' and I'd never have the confidence to say no, my name is Elizabeth! As an adult, I now do correct people though.

My family all shorten my name to Bet or Betty though which I've always liked.

Eloise and Elizabeth is a nice combination imo.

i am an elizabeth, but have always been called lizzi or beth.when i was much younger i always thought my proper name was a bit fuddyduddy, but i think that being called lizzi is more bubblier,and is also easier for the children in the nursery where i work to pronounce!!

Gorgeous name and I think it's fine for a sister to Eloise. PLEASE don't do "Lizzie" though. I used to get called this as a kid (even though my name is nothing like Elizabeth!) and I hated it! My grandmother who was called Elizabeth used to get "Lisl" (pronounced "Leezl" like the oldest child in The Sound of Music). She, incidentally, had the middle name Emma, which I think sits really well with Elizabeth. Actually, now I think about it, I think I need another DD specially so I can call her Elizabeth Emma .....

I really like Elizabeth - a classic name with so many nn to chose from BUT I do think it is a bit too similar to go with a sibling Eloise - sorry.

Elizabeth is a fine choice, but I will say that because its what we have chosen for our DD who is due on the 11th December!

I love Beth and Elsa. But Elsa is more Es, Ls and Ss.

I think I'm going against the grain when I say that Elizabeth and Eloise is a bit matchy matchey. Not terrible. Have heard worse panda combos, but it's going that way.

If I do decide on Elizabeth it will be a lizzie.

Excellent name - sounds pretty, easy to live with, everyone knows how to spell it, lots of nickname variations, difficult to make fun of.

Elizabeth is lovely, my Gran's name and my DD's middle name.

Eloise also lovely, in fact top of my list for another DD. DH won't consider it though cos he went to school with a horrible one, so am of you.

Elizabeth must be rejected by any self respecting MN-er, for the following reasons:

a) Biblical
b) New Testament
c) Perennially popular down the ages
d) Not indicative of social class, or race.

An "Elizabeth" (or "Liz") could be one of your 30-something friends, your mum, an African or Carribean, an Anglicised Asian, or even an 80yr old head of state!

It doesn't signal "noughties born member of the Boden classes". Try something sensible like Flora.
