Water names for boys?

DS2 born last night! Have posted before... Still no name...

DS1 is Aidan. I love Theodore for DS2, I think DH will come round to it. I also love Dashiell but no way DH will consider it.

DH likes Charlie, Ben, Dylan, Justin, Julian, Elliot and Ethan (the last two names I'm okay with but not convinced!).

However, I always liked the idea of a water name for DS2 (seeing as Aidan means 'little fire', I thought an opposite name would be nice to counter-balance...). And DS2 was born with his waters intact i.e. born in the membranes, which I was told is fairly rare and old wives tales say it means he will never drown. So it seems that the significance of a water name is now even more appropriate. However, I don't want any weird or out there names either. The only 'water' name I can think of is Caspian. Any other suggestions before I go for Theodore? Thanks!

Finally decided on a name - totally unwater-connected. We decided on Leon Thomas. There were some great suggestions, but either didn't work with our surname or just didn't sound right! Never mind! Loving the name Theo by the way and its such a relief to finally have a name for him instead of baby!

angel1976 · 07/11/2009 20:28

Thank you all. We have decided on Theodore. In the end, we just decided we don't love any other names as much and little Theo sounds just right for our little man right now.

Jellymane - What have you decided on?

Byron was born "in cauls", I think.

BlueChampagne · 06/11/2009 14:24

Niall

Swedes2Turnips0 · 06/11/2009 13:30

Ocean
River

BlueChampagne · 06/11/2009 13:27

Congratulations to you both.

Clyde
Hudson (Bay)
(St) Laurence (River)

Umm - easier with girls, isn't it!

Still think Byron is a cool name - there is a Byron's Pool near us, and he was a noted swimmer ...

Avendesora · 06/11/2009 12:45

What about an air or stone name. I rather like Peter at the moment.

nooka · 06/11/2009 06:22

Names not already suggested, but perhaps a little obscure:

Calder - Rough waters
Mortimer - Still water
Moss - From the Water
Morgan - Old Welsh Sea Circle"
Meredith - Sea Lord
Merlin - Sea Fortress
Lir - an Irish god of the sea

On the biblical front there is always Jonah

Or there is always Napoleon, who was also (apparently) born in his caul.

I'm not sure I'd go with any of these!

MrsKitty · 06/11/2009 03:52

Calder - Welsh meaning stream

Beck - Norse meaning stream

Riley - Irish meaning stream

Andros - Polish meaning Sea

Murphy - Irish meaning Sea Warrior

I like Douglas from previous suggestions.

Struan is Scottish and so is Drookit!

pippylongstockings · 05/11/2009 21:34

Oh the idea of a water based name is FAB!

My DS2 was also born 'in the caul' he is now 3 and we have great hopes in him becoming a fabulous round the world sailor.......
However we called him a tree name Woodrow aaka Woody
What about:
Douglas
Dylan
Travis
Trent

hester · 05/11/2009 21:31

Ethan much nicer than Theodore. Ben and Dylan both good. Noah and Moses best of all.

And congrats everyone on lovely new babies

angel1976 · 05/11/2009 21:24

Congrats Jellymane! Will be interested to know what you are going to name your DS.

I really, really love the idea of having a water-related name but the list ain't looking good...

Noah - Nice name but my SIL had a real drip of an ex-boyfriend named that and I don't think we could ever live down the association.

Ronan - Love the meaning but DH hates Ronan Keating and also our surname starts with 'R' and we are not keen on the alliteration.

Lincoln, Dylan/Dillon, Jordan - All names too closely associated with friends/family to be considered.

At the moment, it's a close fight between Theodore and Ethan. Though DH has thrown in another contender - Owen... Argh! The baby will have a name by tomorrow! Thanks all...

Although I love Elliot from your dh's list.

ja9 · 05/11/2009 20:08

struan - scottish name meaning stream i think

Jellymane · 05/11/2009 20:05

Just had to post that I too had my DS last night at 11.31 and he was also born with his membranes intact! Coincidence or what? I'm loving your idea of the water related name as he is also baby no-name at the mo! Congratulations!

devonsmummy · 05/11/2009 20:02

Wade (DH's name)

boodleboot · 05/11/2009 16:33

surely it has to be Noah. that is as watery as it gets....or Moses, he parted the red sea....i love the name Moses....

voulezvou · 05/11/2009 15:25

Ronan is perfect and your son sounds like a little seal! Awww

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 05/11/2009 14:41

Ronan? ('little seal')

Lancelottie · 05/11/2009 14:37

Any local waterways with good names? I know a Derwent and a Calder, for instance.

[note: do NOT follow this up if you live near the Itchen, Limpopo, Piddle or Looe)

LetThereBeRock · 05/11/2009 14:20

I love Caspian. Theo is great too.

I've always wanted to call a baby Caspian, for the sea, not for the book by C.S Lewis.

bronze · 05/11/2009 11:28

well Dylan is a water name... I think it means man from the sea
Morgan is also a water name
