Not overkeen myself...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bumperlicioso · 03/11/2009 13:45

Now I really don't like the name Edward, what circle does that make me in? It's not from any kind of class associations, I like poncey middle class names with the best of MN, and I have never known an Edward, it's just one of those names I don't like the sound of.

CaptainUnderpants · 03/11/2009 13:43

whatever is thougt of the name - Kai Wayne Rooney will be a very rich little boy.

Good luck to Colette & Wayne ,it is not going to be easy bringing the child up in the spotlight (not that I know anything about that ! .

The parents are happy , baby seems to be healthy - all is good.

it is all v well giving your child their father's name as a middle name as is traditional but with break-up rates so high these days...

I really don't understand your comment. Even when parents divorce the father still remains the childs father so why ould the middle name be an issue exactly?

sonniebonnie · 03/11/2009 13:38

But Maggie, perhaps Patrick, Peter or Edward are perceived negatively in THEIR circle. And thats ok imo.

How arrogant to proclaim that Colleen is not canny enough to "know that Kai might be perceived negatively in some circles".

ANY name is perceived negatively by some circles. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES. Nothing wrong with that!

MaggieMonday · 03/11/2009 13:32

I agree that continuing the Wayne thing over three generations is actually nice. Why shouldn't they??? That's their family name. And, their son, Wayne in the middle, was/is a big success in his field! so go ahead and celebrate that by calling Kai 'Kai Wayne'.

My son's middle name is my Dad's name, which a lot of people wince at, but it is better than another boy with the mn James. (or whatever fills the blank).

I still don't like Kai though. It reminds me of Burberry.

VinegarTitsOnFire · 03/11/2009 13:27

What a load of snobby jumped up itches on here

Of course all your dc have perfect, middle class names dont they?

MaggieMonday · 03/11/2009 13:25

I'm surprised actually. I thought Colleen was canny enough to know that Kai might be perceived negatively in some circles.

I thought we might have a little Patrick, Peter or Edward Rooney.

ErikaMaye · 03/11/2009 13:25

Well we shall agree to disagree then For what its worth, in my original post I said I liked Kai but didn't like the combination.

(Also, said I wouldn't use it myself - that's simply because I am in total baby arrival mood now, so the name we have agreed on is the only name I can see myself possibly using )

Emprexia · 03/11/2009 13:23

What a load of stuck up snobbish bullshit.

::walks away shaking her head::

There are sometimes MN deserves the rep of being a nest of vipers.. this thread is a prime example

MamaLazarou · 03/11/2009 13:20

Not keen on Kai - it doesn't sound 'finished' to me! But quite like Wayne.

browntrout · 03/11/2009 13:19

I agree that there is awful snobbery being displayed in this thread. 'Chavtastic', 'working class' etc etc. I've heard a damn sight worse on MN and in RL.

edam · 03/11/2009 13:18

Kitty, in the legends, King Arthur's stepbrother was called Kay, not Kai. Sorry but think you've made a mistake there. Not that it matters particularly.

pispirispis · 03/11/2009 13:16

I think Kai is a lovely (and normal) German/Scandanavian name. I?d also always thought of it as quite an unusual and cool/hippyish name in the UK. I hope my friend isn?t reading this.

Bumperlicioso · 03/11/2009 13:16

I'm all for sleb twaddle and think that a lot of these people set themselves up for this sort of thing but I really can't see anything that Coleen and Wayne have done wrong, except come from a working class background and do well for themselves. This thread is pretty mean and snobby. And for Kittywise:

'I have a Kai, but he's 10. What a shame it will now be associated with them '

I think that is a bit dramatic. Do want to put a copywrite on your child's name, and what really is wrong with being associated with them. What have they done that is so wrong?

I don't agree ErikaMaye - I love the baby names threads and admittedly though people often declare names common or whatever, if Kai was there from someone non celeb more people would like it I am sure.

People think of Wayne as more common these days but it is completely normal to give a child their parent's name as a middle name.

zebramummy · 03/11/2009 13:09

zebramummy · 03/11/2009 13:08

what you would expect really - bet the next one will be a girl called kayla!!

B1984 · 03/11/2009 13:05

yellowflowers agree with you!i think Kai is a lovely name.

Botbot · 03/11/2009 13:00

I went to school with a (quite middle-class) Kai, so it feels like just another name to me - certainly nothing ludicrous. I don't mind it at all.

ErikaMaye · 03/11/2009 12:56

Yellowflowers, we're commenting on the name just as would if someone had posted it from on here, regardless of who they are.

yellowflowers · 03/11/2009 12:45

Really sorry but I hate the snobbery on this thread. Kai is a proper name. Wayne is his dad's name. What's wrong with any of that except for fact you want to dislike whatever they've done.

TanteRose · 03/11/2009 12:43

Kai is "sea, ocean" in Japanese...its quite a nice name. But not paired with Wayne...

kittywise · 03/11/2009 12:43

I named him after "Sir Kai", Arthur's foster brother in the Arthurian legends. I actually wanted to call him Kay.
