Aaron - how would you pronounce it?

We've picked the name Aaron for our son, but since deciding on it have discovered that people are pronouncing the name in different ways. I wanted to do a quick poll and see how you think it should be said.

A boy in DS's class is called Aaron, pronounced Ay-ron

As before, I would pronounce it rhyming with Sharon. There is a little boy in US programme Lost called Aaron and pronounced this way

I'd say Arun but I know a person with a name pronounced Air-un who spells it Ahron (i think)

Personally i prefer his pronunciation to the way i pronounce Aaron

I think i might have confused myself a bit here

To me

Aaron -> Air-run
Arun -> Ah-run

So if you want Ah-run, then I'd spell it Arun. That way there can be no confusion imo.

I would want to say Air-ron, but every child I teach who is called Aaron pronounces it your way.

My DH is Air-ron. It took me months to say it properly and I still call him Arran sometimes as a tease :D

Air-ron. Went to school with about 4. All pronounced that way.

Thanks for your replies. It looks like there's a 50/50 split. We had chosen the spelling Aaron, with the pronunciation as Baron without the B.

Friends and family in Scotland seem to know that's how it is said, but those in England think it's Aaron as in Air-on. We're not sure whether to change the way we wanted to spell it to avoid confusion for the rest of our son's life!

I know quite a few different ones - the English ones I know are all Air- on and the Scottish/NI ones I know are Arron -

But once you get to know the Aaron you just get used to however they say it - like Mia (Meea or Mya) - so I think people would adapt to whatever you choose.....

it is intersting: a boy at my secondary school was called Aaron, and all the way through school he pronounced it Air-ron, then when I met him as an adult, he pronounced it Arron.

don't know whether that's because he discovered he was saying it wrong all of a sudden! or whether he just preferred it the other way.

Arron. But then I am Welsh and pronounce Albany as Al-banny rather than Aul-buny!
