Aaron - how would you pronounce it?

depends where you come from as well. im called Aaron as in Airon. In my year at schools there were three of us. me and one of the other ones called our self airon and the other aron. france they say aron.

I went to school with one. We said Air-on.

Aran is a jumper to me.

As othrs have said, Arran is a completely different (Scottish/Irish) name, surely?

Clearly both are acceptable and it's pronounced as the parents wish. However if you choose it you may have to accept that some may pronounce it wrong initially, you just have to cheerfully explain which pronunciation you have picked and that there are two (at least) acceptable pronunciations.

Technically it should be A-ha-ron which is the Hebrew pronunciation. The pronunciation in England has long been Air on which is equally incorrect but has been standard for many years.

The Aron pronunciation comes from the Biblical Aaron too through other translations not English but was usually spelled differently in England as Aron or Arron, there is no reason why pronouncing Aaron as Aron should be any more incorrect than pronouncing it as Air-on both pronunciations are not the original ones and therefore they are both incorrect but acceptable.
Arran and Arun are different names with different roots

I would assume any Aaron under say 30 nowadays as an Arron unless clarified otherwise. I would clarify with older Aaron's, the Arron pronunciation is much nicer in my view.

To rhyme with Baron, unless I know the person is Jewish, in which case I'd assume Air-on.

All the Aaron's I know pronounce it Ah-run to rhyme with Baron. Air-on sounds very American to me but it's down to you how you decide to pronounce it once he's meets people they will remember.

It is most definitely pronounced Air - on (as in Copland). Agree with the joke above about Moses sometimes being seen with Aaron and sometimes not. Lovely name when pronounced correctly, not when pronounced Arran, which should be spelled like that, as in the island.

When we had my boy we specifically wanted to call him Arron so spelt it that's way.He's now 10 and this debate has come up,boys at his school are called Arron but spelt Aaron to which they tell my boy his name is spelt wrong....I googled it to prove to him that in biblical/correct terms it is pronounced air Ron,Aaron Hebrew brother of Joseph.Arron is a modern name.

The correct pronunciation is Air-on. I went to school with 2 boys called Aaron pronounced Air-on. I think over the years the incorrect spelling has been used. If the name wanted is Arun then it should be spelled Arun or Arran or something that pronounces like that. Double A at the start of a word is pronounced Air. This isn't debatable it is the facts but the language evolves over time and as such the majority of people now call their children Aaron and say it Arun. It is incorrect but in today's language appears to now be correct.

I love all the snottiness on this thread Just use whichever pronunciation and spelling combo you prefer, it's pretty obvious they're interchangeable in the big wide world.

It's a great name, one I'd happily use (as Aaron prn. Arrun) if I didn't have a slightly irritating friend with exactly that combination.

And as for all the people worrying about confusion and having to correct people all the time: I have a very normal, normally spelled name that really couldn't be clearer. I constantly have to spell it out and correct people, constantly. It's just part of life.

I know 2, both spelt Aaron and pronounced Arrun. Personally don't like Airon pronunciation, but both equally valid IMO. (And if it was me, no way would I change the spelling, Aaron looks much nicer than Arun or Arran in my view)

It was Air-on all through my youth. Elvis, for example, was Elvis Air-on Presley.

Having said that, the only Aaron I know is Canadian and pronounces it Arron.
