Jemima

Really hoping she isn't on here.. a good friend is expecting a girl in a few weeks and is already calling her Jemima. Everytime she says it, I have to stop myself saying "Puddleduck". Whats your opinion? Her other choice was Amelie which I much prefer.

I think it's lovely but ridiculed too often

pipWereRabbit · 27/10/2009 15:28

Jemima is the nickname all the girls in my family get called when we are dawdling and need to get moving... Come on Jemima.

I habe know idea why.

lavenderkate · 27/10/2009 15:25

Vivia

Not my cup of tea really, sorry,

jeee · 27/10/2009 15:24

I can only see the rag doll from Playschool.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2009 15:23

Jemima is lovely, imo.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/10/2009 14:25

LOVE JEMIMA
( shouting smiley)

diddl · 27/10/2009 14:24

I like it, and also Amelie.

I think the fact that you have to "stop yourself" saying Puddleduck says more about you, tbh.

Littledawley · 27/10/2009 14:22

Think it is a lovely name and actually know someone who has two girls. Amelie and Jemima - everyone that meets them comments on the beautiful names.

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 27/10/2009 14:20

I like the name as a whole. Really dislike the potential nick names; Jem, Mima, Mimi

Zil131 · 27/10/2009 14:17

My fiend has a Jemima and is definately trying too hard (I think inspired by Jemima Kahn). And in our house she is known as 'Puddleduck'
Sorry...

Vivia · 27/10/2009 14:12

Jemima is frightfully jolly-hockey-sticks.

I teach at a university and this name is the template for the sloaney girls who are 17 but dress 45. My first day of teaching, a huge, braying girl in an Hermes scarf and Barbour wax jacket entered the room and bellowed 'Ahoy! I'm Jemima, yah!'

Still, it's better than Amelie.

bellissima · 26/10/2009 21:54

Well yes Puddleduck (and a doll on Playschool? or am I so old I'm losing it?), but agree it's nicer than Amelie and agree Kerala that Jem is a good nn.

electra · 26/10/2009 21:49

Love it, love it, love it - fab name, much better than Amelie imo. Dd3 might have been Jemima but when she was born the name didn't suit her and I had to come up with something else.

KERALA1 · 26/10/2009 21:48

I like Jemima - can always be Jem as a nickname which is cute and funky. Prefer Jemima to Amelie which is really common and abit wet (and very French so seems abit odd if you don't have a French link).

hf128219 · 26/10/2009 21:46

It's a 'try hard name'.

SorciereAnna · 26/10/2009 21:45

Both names are seriously bunting cupcake and as such probably a poor choice...

DemonBradleySlaysPippi · 26/10/2009 21:44

I really don;t like Jemima at all (sorry).

Amelie on the other hand is lovely.

ElvesAnonymous · 26/10/2009 21:40

I absolutely adore Jemima and it's on my list of girls names. I think the puddleduck association makes it cute!
