A sister for Lucy.... Mina? What do you think? Please be truthful (but in a nice way!)

Lovely names, but my immediate thought was fangs! Could you use it as a middle name, and call her it as a nickname, prehaps?

Vivia · 27/10/2009 14:00

What pronunciation are you thinking of? Meena is great as the real Asian name it is. But I know of a woman in her 50s who pronounces it 'My-nah' and it is just ugly. A gorgeous LO called Mynah? Forget it.

A friend of mine called her DD 'Mirren' which is just gorgeous. It's softer with Lucy - Lucy and Mirren sounds lovely to me.

Tambajam · 27/10/2009 07:11

Saw the thread title and thought of Dracula/ Sadie Frost etc. Doesn't mean they are not nice names though.

nooka · 27/10/2009 03:12

It seems like a bit of a name to me. OK as a shortening of Wilhelmina or something, but not on it's own.

I have a friend with a daughter called Nina and I really like that.

Qally · 27/10/2009 01:02

Another person to clickthe link to say NOOO DRACULA!

Maya? Maia? Mia? Nina?

my friends is Minn a

bellissima · 26/10/2009 15:03

Prefer Minna to Mina (does one pronounce latter Meena or Min- a?) but be warned - there are MNers on the back row who snigger at anything with 'min' or 'fan' in. (see also Albert etc...)

EightiesChick · 26/10/2009 12:45

Dracula was my first thought too. I really think that while a lot of people won't pick up on it, enough will to make it unthinkable, I'm afraid.

Mia or Minnie would be nice alternatives.

For all those reading who don't know the connection, they're both characters in Dracula, friends, who are pursued by vampires. Mina survives but Lucy becomes a victim. Just not the associations you'd want I think!

JohnnyYellowHat · 26/10/2009 12:43

I think Lucy and Mina go really nicely together, and wouldn't have associated them with Dracula. I prefer Mia though.

OrmIrian · 26/10/2009 12:42

Very suitable for Halloween

I don't like Mina I have to say. Mia maybe?

Iklboo · 26/10/2009 12:39

First think I thought of was Dracula - but there's nothing wrong with that. Mia is lovely though

jamandjerusalem · 26/10/2009 12:37

I think it's good! I wouldn't worry too much, think you can overanalyse these things.

My brother and I both have names that could be boys or girls and even our own relatives would sometimes muddle them up. We didn't care. Care even less now that we're adults!

Oh, and Mina could be short for Philomena, too.

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 26/10/2009 12:32

Of course Bram Stoker/Dracula is the only association I have. Is nice still.
I'd like it as a short form of Minerva too, not so fond of Wilhelmina.

LetThereBeRock · 26/10/2009 12:18

I don't really like Mina and the combination of the two immediately makes me think of Dracula

chimchar · 26/10/2009 11:27

oooh. lucy and mia are lovely together.

naughtystepforme · 26/10/2009 11:21

ooh... I like Mia, maybe we could go for that?

i think Mina's a lovely name: very unusual.

i didn't think of the dracula connection and i loved that book.

HollyGoHeavily · 26/10/2009 11:11

Sorry - the vampire link was the first thing that came to my mind as well. But then I do love the book and the Coppola film so perhaps I am not typical....

naughtystepforme · 26/10/2009 11:09

I'll have to show him your response Itchy and then we can try to think of something else.
