Arthur or Albert?

Both just new entries on a list of names we are unsure of; but given the recent trend in "Grandad's name", these two don't apear to have made the top 100 yet - opinions?

Also, DH thinks Albert will alwas be a Bertie - is he right?

Both sweet; I prefer Arthur.

mummymeister · 10/11/2009 23:01

Don't make any name decisions until you see your baby. My son was going to be Emile right up until the moment I held him and thought yuk this is a rubbish name for you my boy and he got something completely not on our list at all.

Hulababy · 10/11/2009 22:50

I like Arthur, not so sure on Art/Artie type nn.

I am not so keen on Albert but love th nn Albie.

boodleboot · 10/11/2009 22:36

i'm really in love with the name Alvy at the minute...i assume it would be Alvin?

Divatheshopaholic · 10/11/2009 22:36

Arthur is nice, but dh never liked it why men dislike arthur?

EachPeachPearMum · 10/11/2009 22:23

Arthur.

It was the No. 1 baby boys name in UK for quite a while... 100 years ago!

onthepier · 25/10/2009 15:35

Would never have thought of that name myself, but I know a baby Arthur and he's just gorgeous. What's more, the name seems to suit him!

Lolbilly · 25/10/2009 14:43

I prefer Albert and think Bert is a wicked nickname.

Mamazonabroomstick · 25/10/2009 11:38

My Dog is called Albert. i thought everyone would shorten it to Bert but they don't.

i know that a dog is very different to a child of course, im just saying that he may not necessarily have it shortened

lovemybabyboy · 25/10/2009 11:33

I like both names, they are both really nice, but I think I prefer Arthur.

hatwoman · 24/10/2009 23:45

I like Arthur too. I had an uncle called Arthur (he was, in fact my Dad's cousin, and was closer in age to my gps). He used to shun adults at family parties, preferring the company of children. He taught me silly poems and how to say the alphabet backwards. He was marvellous.

Clary · 24/10/2009 23:40

Excellent.

hatwoman · 24/10/2009 23:37

Albert. and people who abbreviate it to Albie or Bert or Bertie get stern looks.

Clary · 24/10/2009 23:34

hat is yr dog called Arthur or Albert then?

hatwoman · 24/10/2009 23:32

I know 2 Arthurs and an Albert. plus my dog.

LaDiDaDi · 24/10/2009 23:31

I like both of them, prefer the nn of Albie to Art but prefer the formal name Arthur to Albert.

That's not very helpful, is it?

DougalDoneGood · 24/10/2009 23:29

Great names, both of them

dizzydixies · 24/10/2009 21:14

I love Arthur nn Art and Albie for Albert is fab too

why not see which one suits him best

halfcut · 24/10/2009 21:06

I hate granddad names just awful...sorry but I can't imagine a baby or a teenager called Albert or Arthur

pugwash · 24/10/2009 21:00

My Nephew is an Albie, not short for anything though.

I know two Arthurs and no Alberts under 12 FWIW.

Don't think either would therefore be classed as popular (I know a lot of children ).

DS1 who happens to be sitting nearby says he prefers Arthur. So do I but both are nice.

Albie and Bertie are great

strongblackcoffee · 23/10/2009 18:35

My friend has an Arthur, and a german friend of hers laughed heartily at the name choice and said (with heavy german accent) 'ha ha, it is funny, in germany ve sink Arthur is very old man name'. She had to explain it was the actually just same here...

ParanoiaBigPumkinDestroyer · 23/10/2009 17:13

I have a beautiful bouncing 8 month old called Albert. He's Al for short but we use the full name a lot.

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown · 23/10/2009 17:11

Like both, but marginally prefer Arthur.
