Am ok for a boys name, but need a girls name in case we have another DD.

Some names I like but can't use for this baby for various reasons are:

  • Isabelle
  • Madeleine
  • Amelia
  • Elizabeth

Can anyone think of any similar names? I would quite like something that would give the nn Ellie but have been here before and couldn't find anything I liked.

Gabriella shortened to Ellie is lovely.

Hollyoaks · 28/10/2009 08:10

My dd is Isabella, but she gets Belles as a shortened version, which I absolutely love

Love Sophia and would love to use it this time isf I have another dd but too close to the name of a family dog , believe it or not.

I'm watching this thread as we seem to have similar taste in names, we're finding it hard to find a girl's name that we love as much as dd's. Spookily Joseph is one of our two boys names

GhoulsAreLoud · 28/10/2009 08:03

Do like Sophia though..

Thanks.

I don't really like Ellie on it's ownm, I prefer a long version of a name that can be shortened as that's what mine and DD is got and I like the versatility.

I still like Elinor and Eloise but DH doesn't love them. He likes Isabella but it is too popular for my liking.

I'm not dead set on Ellie if something else comes along that I prefer, but haven't found it yet..

Cecilia. Nobody likes it - it's my name. Usually called Celia or C or Cec or Cesspit or CC or... maybe not?

Lionstar · 27/10/2009 22:47

Estelle can be shortened to Ellie

Plonker · 27/10/2009 22:45

What is your dd called?

Plonker · 27/10/2009 22:44

Hmmm, I would say Ella from Isabella really, not Ellie.

I think 'el' or 'elle' beginnings or endings give the nn Ellie better:

Ellen
Eleanor
Elena
Eleanora
Eliza
Ellysa
Eloise
Annabel
Isabel
Christabel

Ar e you dead-set on Ellie?

GhoulsAreLoud · 27/10/2009 22:09

Thanks people.

Is Ellie a convincing nickname from Isabella or not at all really do you think?

My DD is Rebecca Catherine.

My sis is Lucinda but hated it all her childhood and has been Lucy since teenage years. Think it depends though on which circles you mix with as to whether child will love it or hate it, IYSWIM?!?!?
