I had narrowed it down to final two being Noah and Daniel (middle name to be James).
DH not fussed on either really, although he actively dislikes Noah which I love.

Yesterday he said what about Ryan? And I thought hmmmmm I actually quite like it, which is how ds came to be named when we found something that we didnt both hate but didnt both love and now I cant imagine him being anything else

So opinions on Ryan please?

snigger

Disenchanted3 · 22/10/2009 10:34

Tyler is my Nephews name

clop · 22/10/2009 10:27

I own a Daniel -- he is not 'average' at all (hymph! ). Had a glowing report from his Yr5 teacher last night, too.

They are all quite nice names, OP; common enough for your DS to make very much his own. Noah is just a tiny bit girlie, I suppose (girly boy names are quite popular on MN, I find; is that why your DH doesn't like it?).

overmydeadbody · 22/10/2009 10:22

and I agree, Tyler is a revolting name.

overmydeadbody · 22/10/2009 10:21

me too Disenchanted. In fact, all the Ryans I have ever known have been naughty and fat.

overmydeadbody · 22/10/2009 10:21

Ryan is very meh.

But Daniel is very average too.

Disenchanted3 · 22/10/2009 10:19

All the Ryans I know are naughty boys, lol.

jomummy2 · 22/10/2009 10:17

Don't like Ryan at all - sorry, but love Daniel the best and then Noah. Also like Harry!

pranma · 21/10/2009 17:58

Ewan
Rowan
Ethan
Owen
Nathan
Robin

diddl · 21/10/2009 12:37

I like Noah best, then Daniel.

Don´t like Ryan.

Bessie123 · 21/10/2009 12:18

urgh, Tyler is a revolting name.

I saw a magazine where some celebrity chef in America had called her son Thatcher. Can you believe it???

mosschops30 · 21/10/2009 11:57

no to William

Its not like im looking for suggestions, its taken me 9 months to get to these 3

I dont think on the whole Ryan is chavvy but I suppose its who you know that has children of that name, we know a very nice family with a Ryan.
Round here chavvy would be Josh/Ethan/Tyler, I suppose it depends where you are and who you know

William?

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/10/2009 11:51

Only because my db's are Ross and Luke so they "go" to me iyswim

mosschops30 · 21/10/2009 11:50

No to James as 1st name, I find it very boring, and lots of James' here, about 4 in ds's reception class alone! Am only having it as middle name as its dh's middle name.

No to Ross? And why Ross? It soooo doesnt go with surname

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 21/10/2009 11:38

How about Ross ?

Bessie123 · 21/10/2009 11:35

I think Ryan is quite a chavvy name. I prefer Noah or Daniel

persephoneplum · 21/10/2009 11:33

Pointyhat - Average meaning totally dull and boring. I guess I was using 'average' as a euphemism!

pranma · 21/10/2009 11:33

Ryan is a bit ordinary compared with Daniel and Noah[a bit like Darren used to be].If you are having James as middle name why not have it as first name instead?

SecretSlattern · 21/10/2009 11:12

I lurve Daniel but then I have one.

Ryan and Noah are very popular around these parts and I've yet to meet another Daniel.

WRT to name shortenings, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to names and I think kids should be called by the names they are given. DD is Natalie but has an alternative nickname as can't stand Nat and Daniel is just Daniel (but that is partly because my first cousin is called Danny and we see him regularly, didn't want to get into the whole name nicking thing with my aunt!).

mosschops30 · 21/10/2009 11:06

lol @ Ryan and Brian, we wemt to a christening where the vicar accidentally called baby Ryan 'Bryan' all the way through the service much to the amusement of the congregation

I dont think we will find something we both 'love'. Like I said, we didnt love ds's name, but both agreed that we liked it, although now I love it and it suits him so much.

I think I will stick with these 3, then when baby pops out just see what he looks like, thats what we did with ds and both went 'yes he looks like a luke'

Ryan and Noah have the benefit of being short which both of mine are (neither name can be shortened), thats the only thing about Daniel, being Dan or Danny.

Not too worried about the naughty connotations, every teacher I speak to has a different name that they say is the naughtiest (Callum/Connor/Josh to name a few)

MaggieEsLaMejorBruja · 21/10/2009 10:30

I love Daniel James though

MaggieEsLaMejorBruja · 21/10/2009 10:30

Ryan is too close to Brian imo

saltyseadog · 20/10/2009 22:45

Noah.

Not keen on Ryan at all - sorry.

nooka · 20/10/2009 22:43

Well Daniel was number 5 last year, and Ryan number 18, but both are falling in polarity. Noah was number 15, and rising. So I guess they are all relatively popular. Personally I like Daniel James best of your proposals, but it's not my baby
