How popular is Lucy/Lucie in your area?

Quite taken with the simplicity yet niceness of Lucy.

Would think it was madly popular though? Is it?

Isn't Lucie the more tradtional? French? spelling.

Thanks

It's a lovely name. I know one who is two weeks old and one who is nine years old. I live in Melbourne though so that is probably irrelevant.

SorciereAnna · 23/10/2009 09:16

My sister has a half-French, half-English DD called Lucie.

The little girl in Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is called Lucie.

BarbaraBlacksheep · 22/10/2009 09:46

Mine is the only one round here, was the only name DH and I both loved

LittleRedCar · 22/10/2009 09:36

Like Stealth, I love it but DH vetoed it.

And it was my best friend's name when I was little

LittleRedCar · 22/10/2009 09:36

We know two, both are 5 -6 years old.

StealthPolarBear · 22/10/2009 08:36

i love it but wasnt allowed to use it
haven't heard of any young lucys

pippel · 22/10/2009 08:29

It a lovely name but before I went on maternity leave their were about five in my room at nursery so all aged 2-5 and one in the baby room, they all had the same key worker so were called "the Lucys" she also had all "the Jessicas"

Plonker · 22/10/2009 00:14

I have a gorgeous Lucy who is 9yo. She is the only Lucy in her class and in fact the only Lucy in the juniors (there is one other Lucy, in the infants).

I know of one baby Lucy too. But thats it.

Lucy is a beautiful, classy and timeless name. I love it and have never regretted using it for my pfb

Nyx · 21/10/2009 22:12

I'm in Glasgow and there are a lot of young Lucys round here. I never knew a single Lucy when I was growing up, and always loved the name. So I named DD Lucy, and all of a sudden they seemed to come out of the woodwork! At one point there were three in her childminders - big Lucy, wee Lucy, and Lucy. Groan.

I still love the name though I know a piano teacher called Lucie - I do like that spelling as well.

luciemule · 21/10/2009 22:11

I am a Lucie and yes, I've spent all my life (I'm 32) telling people, "that's Lucie- IE" whenever I spell it out.
It's certainly not chavvy and actually quite an old fashioned but sweet name (even if I do say so myself!).
My mum spelt it the french way after seeing the books in the 70s by Mabelle Lucie Atwell and also the Lucie in Mrs Tiggywinkle stories.
Much more common in France and I like to think I was french in a past life so it suits me perfectly
Near us, there aren't many Lucie's but a couple of Lucy's.
I know that someone feels they know me well when they call me Luce.

piscesmoon · 21/10/2009 22:05

There are always a few around but never a lot. I think it is lovely-but only as Lucy.

posey · 21/10/2009 22:00

Only one here that I know of, friend's dd who is 8.
I dont know of any in dc's school.
The pre-school where I've worked for past 10 years has never had a Lucy (except friend's dd!)

Lovely name

avaj · 21/10/2009 21:55

Lucy is a lovely name, but pretty popular where I am in Scotland.
My neice is Lucy and my 3.5 year old has two in her nursery class.

Piffle · 21/10/2009 21:53

I live quite near Tigerfeet
4 Lucy's in DD's yr2 class of 9
and 3 in reception out of 7...
v v popular around here

if a teacher say "lucy" about 20 children turn their heads..
So now they are called Lucy C Lucy R And Lucy C2 Lucy C3 etc

shockers · 21/10/2009 21:48

My eldest son would have been a Lucy had he been a girl... he says that if he has a daughter, he will call her Lucy ( he's 22)
There's only one in my school and she's gorgeous!

I'd go for Lucy.

I've not heard of a single Lucy around these parts, I have a friend called Lucy though.

crokky · 21/10/2009 21:34

There is a Lucie in my DS's nursery - her mum is French. However, I have seen this child's name written "Lucy" all over bits of paper etc, so I think unless you are French, go for Lucy.

Megglevache · 21/10/2009 21:31

Not very.

It's a beautiful name!

Ondine · 21/10/2009 21:30

I know of one so not very popular. I would spell it Lucy as although Lucie is the French spelling I think most people would just think you were trying to be 'cre8tive' with the spelling.

Chulita · 21/10/2009 21:09

I have a Lucy and there's another baby in our tots group but she's spelled Lucie. I think it's a proper girly name, I love it

Ijustknow · 21/10/2009 20:53

Lucie is my middle name. Never liked it much as a child. Have grown to appreciate it. As I have a french-sounding weird-spelling first name to go with it, it has always made me feel a bit exotic (which I am not), a bit different (which I am not)and vaguely aristocratic (no again!)

I'm a Lucy and I'm 36 - I've always liked my name and think I came out of the 70's babynaming trends very well. To me it's classic and classless which has been very useful in my life. I was a comprehensive kid who went to Oxford and was always pleased that my name meant I could fit in wherever I was.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/10/2009 18:57

lovely name, a timeless classic, used to be v popular, but less so among pre schoolers.
