Winter- is this a good name?

A friend of mine asked me what I thought of this as a potential name for her expected little girl. I said I wasn't sure for a first name but thought it could work really well as a middle name. What do other people think?

Jenny Talia ha ha ha. i once taught a girl called Summer and it suited her but not so sure about winter x

I don't like it. I don't think it sounds nice enough for a name. Now, Frigid has a ring to it, quite Scandinavian.

I had a client once who had it as his middle aame. He had fairly traditional first and surnames so the 'Winter' in the middle added a poetic touch, I thought.

I like it but think it is a little too wacky for a first name, better as a middle name.

Spring would be a worse name though!

I'm not keen on seasonal or month names, and Winter sounds cold and spiky to me, so not very attractive. I think you can pretty much use what you like in the middle, but not as a first name. dd had a friend called Autumn for a while, and I found that hard to get used to, although it was in the States where they don't really use Autumn (always Fall).

No, it's not a good name. It sounds like a sur name.

i think the main reason it bothers me at all - which it doesn't, much - is that the reasoning behind the name might be the kid being born in Winter...in which case it kind of makes you go 'well so what - a quarter of babies are born in Winter! that's nothing special!!'

I suppose it is the pedant in me...

As a middle name I like it - I think there's a lot more flexibility to be had in middle names than in first names.

i think it would suit a boy better. reminds me of major winters in band of brothers - though it was his surname.

I thinks its quite funky as a name. I'm not sure I would use it though. I'd be worried about the child being bullied at school.

I always worry about that with surnames-as-first-names imagine if Cameron Diaz had married David Cameron
or Reece Witherspoon had married Griff Rhys-Jones
