I am not going to give my baby a surname

DP and I have decided not to give our new baby a traditional surname. We have issues with both our families and no desire to perpetuate their names with our offspring.

We have two inspirational friends who have passed away. They're names were Elizabeth and Anne. In honour of them our DD will have their names as her surname. So her full name will be Iris Poppy Elizabeth-Anne.

I know some people will think this is stupid but we think it is beautiful and meaningful.

Has anyone here done anything like this? What do people think?

Stewpid idea.

jellybeans · 11/10/2009 12:16

bad idea

Tortington · 11/10/2009 11:51

you would just make a surname up wouldn't you tbh.

i think custardo is a great surname in honour of ME

MamaLazarou · 11/10/2009 11:49

If this story was real, I expect 'Elizabeth' and 'Anne' are turning in their inspirational graves.

VineGruesomeTits · 11/10/2009 11:18

lol

BiteOfFun · 11/10/2009 11:14

How about Olivia Violet as the first names, Aitch? Then she could be O.V. Anaeliza?

Or am I over-thinking this?

ninedragons · 11/10/2009 11:12

Nightingale? Parks?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 11/10/2009 11:02

there is a screenwriter called donna franceschild, she changed her name to honour her mother. i've always thought that was lovely. and a friend recently changed her and her child's name to honour her grandmother and start off her new family, again that was lovely.

i loathe your bastard men line, tbh i think that sort of attitude to men is infinitely more damaging than giving your daughter an awkward surname. (and elizabeth-anne is awkward.)

grumpypants · 11/10/2009 10:59

that's true mario and luigi - trying to think of any other strong females...How about Thatcher?....

Shitemum · 11/10/2009 10:57

what differentWitch said

change your own surnames to one you both like by deed poll then name your child what you want plus the new surname.

Marioandluigi · 11/10/2009 10:56

Oh, Grumpy pants beat me to that, but good minds and all

Marioandluigi · 11/10/2009 10:54

What about Pankhurst, thats a strong female name!

purepurple · 11/10/2009 10:54

Poppy DeLaFoof has got to be better than Poppy Gammon-Hangers (I learnt this from another thread)

VineGruesomeTits · 11/10/2009 10:53

Chickenshavenolips · 11/10/2009 10:52

All rise for Judge Poppy DeLaFoof.....it works.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 11/10/2009 10:52

I have an unusual surname and it is a PITA. But at least it is recognisable as a surname

If you really want to do this why not do the Icelandic thing and calle her poppy whatever Stewpiddottir?

(oh and PMSL at "do you work in the NHS, enema is a good surname")

purepurple · 11/10/2009 10:50

Poppy DeLaFoof is super.

BiteOfFun · 11/10/2009 10:49

How about something which celebrates their female heritage then? Something pretty and exotic, like DeLaFoof, perhaps? Poppy DeLaFoof sounds fabulous.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 11/10/2009 10:46

I can kind of see your point but you are going about it in an odd way imo.

I have no conection any more to my father so my children have my mothers maiden name as their surname.

I agree that if you do this you need to choose something that sounds like a surname, not just two more fist names tagged on the end.

Hope would be a nice fitting one - Iris Poppy Hope.

FlamingoBingo · 11/10/2009 10:46

Vinny

I've always wanted Puddleduck for a last name so I could call my DD Jemima

VineGruesomeTits · 11/10/2009 10:44

How about Adams?

I have always loved Sweet Fanny as a girls name, it would go well no?

Amapoleon · 11/10/2009 10:44

Hahahaha!
