Is it a good solid timeless name, or is it yummy-mummy hipster? ..like Dexter et al?

I prefer Victor. Know two Hectors under 3.

Arsed · 10/10/2009 21:04

Oh yeah I know but in my mind George doesn't = gorge and Claire dosnt = care but Hector = tractor.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 10/10/2009 21:01

lol, of course it sounds like tractor. and james sounds like flames and peter sounds like meter etc etc.

Arsed · 10/10/2009 20:53

Honestly ? I think it sounds a bit like tractor. Don't like it.

What about Hugo ?

Wheelybug · 10/10/2009 20:50

I absolutely love the name Hector. Would have really wanted it for a boy (in fact, dd1 in utero was known as hector !) but it didn't go with our surname and dh vetoed. As it was we had 2 dds !!

AitchTwoToTangOh · 10/10/2009 20:43

i'd have said nag more than bully, tbh, and i know a couple of hectors up here. nice name. a wee bit 'what?' but then you get used to it.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 20:42

I'm really not thick, honestly

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 20:39

bellisima Oh yeah... I wasn't thinking in such literal terms, I thought she meant the latin term for bully or something ......

bellissima · 10/10/2009 20:06

Well Jamieandhis - surely to 'hector' is to bully.

To me it's just Hector as in House.

scottishmummy · 10/10/2009 18:33

i really like hector

TheMysticMasseuse · 10/10/2009 18:30

I am a great classic name lover (why isn't every baby boy called James???) but I don't like Hector. a bit too posh for my tastes

TheHeadlessWombat · 10/10/2009 18:27

I don't like it at all.

TeamEdwardTango · 10/10/2009 17:55

Don't like it.

I've known too many dogs and cats (and even a rabbit) called Hector

southeastastra · 10/10/2009 17:52

hector

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 17:52

Hector means bully, Mama ?

That's a bit, erm, unfortunate

MamaLazarou · 10/10/2009 17:20

It means bully.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 09:43

Salonly Yes, Victor is cool (Vic is a good nn). I think Victor should have a resurgence (it was my Grandad's name)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 09:41

Hector is more classy. Dexter is more trendy - I don't like Dexter

Hector is rather posh, are you posh ? Generally speaking I don't like posh names, but it does have a strength about it which is quite appealing.

Kayzr · 10/10/2009 07:13

I love Hector!

Prunerz · 10/10/2009 07:09

Where I come from it is a good solid country name, it has no class connotations. I LOVE it.

nooka · 10/10/2009 05:43

I think of Hector as being Scottish or Classical. dh was keen on it for a long time (he was a classical historian when we met). But we decided in the end that a)Hector was really too tragic, and b)there weren't any good short forms.

Stannie · 10/10/2009 02:30

I really like Hector - wanted it for DS but OH vetoed..

janeite · 09/10/2009 20:50

I like it.

jacks1972 · 09/10/2009 20:48

Love it, good strong scottish name xx

thetraveller · 09/10/2009 20:26

Love Hector (but am biased because DS is a Hector). Didn't occur to me at all that it might be a hipster name. Chose it because DH liked the classical hero connotations and I thought it was a strong name with a Scottish feel to it (I am from Scotland). Wouldn't have put it in the same bracket as Dexter, which I think of as a very American kind of name, at all. Victor's OK, but prefer Hector.
