Is it weird to have 3 children with 'A' being the first initial?

Have 2 A names already, DD and DS.

The only boy name I like is another A name.

At what stage does it become odd?

I went to school with a Jason, who had 4 younger brothers whose names all began with J too. I don't remember it being weird and people only really noticed when listing them.

mutter · 01/12/2009 22:48

My friend's daughters are Aishling, Anya and Aleyna.
I think it's rather nice.

carrielou2007 · 01/12/2009 21:09

My name begins with a 'c' and so does dd's, just coincidence as I love her name. We think a boy this time and I am thinking of names begining with an 'a' after exDP but thought it was a bit twee.

Friend had dd Misty (whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??) then a ds Sonny (love the name) and when expecting her third everyone used to whisper is she going to call it thundercloud?? People are just mean!!

randomimposter · 01/12/2009 20:17

My parents used G for their first DCs...
Gregory, Geraldine and Georgina.... Mum wanted to repeat for me (number 4) EXACTLY cos of the name tag thing!!! ... was either going to be Gemma (sounds like a bleedin' detergent , said my dad) OR Gisela (after an ex girlfriend of my dad's - over my dead body, said my mum ) ....

I ended up as a J......

So actually I DON'T think it's odd at all!

shoobidoo · 01/12/2009 19:47

No, it doesn't seem odd at all, assuming you love the names in their own right!

And the mail will sometimes get muddled up...

LynetteScavo · 01/12/2009 19:26

I doesn't seem odd to me.

nickytwotimes · 01/12/2009 19:24

I like different initials for each child personally, although it would negate the need for multiple name-tag changes.

TamsinToo · 01/12/2009 19:21

I know of a family with six kids all starting with 'K'. It's a bit wierd becuase they have deliberately misspelt some of the names to do it!!!

TheBolter · 01/12/2009 19:10

I'm one of three, all with the same initial. It was kind of intentional with the third (my dsis) but more because it helped my parents to choose a name! As I grew up it didn't bother me at all. People often didn't seem to click straight away, and to be honest I never really think about it.

ilovesprouts · 01/12/2009 19:00

one of my pals has 5 kids whith the j and one has 3 whith the c

MissMackenzie · 01/12/2009 16:32

I am one of 3, all with A names. The only problem we ever had was when post arrived addressed to A.XXXX!

Avendesora · 06/10/2009 17:07

Wouldnt worry me

Cadmum · 06/10/2009 13:06

We have 2 dss with 'A' names but I am not sure that I would go for a third.
When dd2 came along my favourite name started with the same initial as dd1 but I decided that it would be too 'cute' to have two 'A's and two 'S's.

I will say that I am always surprised by the number of people who mix up ds1 and ds2's names because they are chalk and cheese and their names only start with the same letter.

tostaky · 06/10/2009 13:00

In my family, if the dad is called C... we use names that start with "C" for the children.
i think it is kind of cute and im actually doing the same. so nope, for me it is not odd

nooka · 06/10/2009 02:24

I wouldn't do it with two children, and do think it is at least slightly odd with three. dh and I have the same initial and it is a nuisance at times.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/10/2009 00:39

Friend has two sons: Alexander and Alexis. Maybe not that close?

AnnVan · 06/10/2009 00:25

Hah, well I'm one of three who all begin with A. My mum used to call us the A team I've never minded too much, except for the inevitable confusion when letters came addressed to 'A [surname]'. We quite often ended up opening each other's post.
Ooh and DP is an A as well, and so is his half sister. So we decided there were faaar to many A names in the family. Really love the name Alistair, but we had already agreed that we wouldn't use any names beginning with A so that was out

Kirsty86 · 05/10/2009 23:56

My best mate Stacey has siblings all starting with S.

Stuart, Shelly, Stacey, Sarah and Samuel

They made friends with the neighbours whose children are also all S's.

Stephen, Stephanie, Sarah and Shane.

When I go out with them as a group, I'm very pleased my name is Kirsty!

Esmee · 04/10/2009 20:09

I don't mind it too much. My mother is one of three children and they are all A names!

ThePhantomPumpkin · 04/10/2009 11:18

FORGOT not forget. Apologies.

ThePhantomPumpkin · 04/10/2009 11:16

Gah forget I started this.

They don't sound the same at all, so no confusion there.

I don't think DH will budge though anyway, he thinks it's too odd.

yes i think is weird

but i have 2 girls with same initial adn me too so that's weird - wasnt planned tho

Merle · 01/10/2009 19:03

I do find it a bit wierd but absolutely no reason why you shouldn't do it. It seems like something a child would do- name all their teddies with the same kind of sound. So I think I mean that to me there is something child-like about using the same initial. It is not a sophisticated choice. Think it is fine with two children, but once you get to three the same, you're into wierd territory.

VivClicquot · 01/10/2009 17:40

My grandparents both have J names, and they named their children Jane, Gillian and John. I don't think it ever caused them a problem.
